Hello Blackhat world, longtime lurker.

I wanted to start to give back to the community that has helped me thus far. Bellow is some stats, ideas, and take always from my website I built over the course of a year then sold. Because of a NDA I cannot disclose the name of the website.

I was surprised to see the results I did and look forward to starting another website soon. I plan on incorporating some nice API's or maybe even designing a webapp since I am a coder IRL. If this post gets enough love I'll do an official Journey thread when I start my next site.

Anyway here is my case study! I hope it helps others.

*I crawled my own Sitemap to check for broken links and boosted my views about 80-100 that month. It was an accident on my part.

Search Console Stats (June 27, 2018 – May 22, 2019)
After about 8 months the website started to really take off.

Impressions, clicks, CTR, and position continues to improve month after month.

AMP Lessons
I thought this was one of the more interesting takeaways. What I saw in the search console was that AMP articles really made a difference. They can be a pain to work with sometimes and I have heard people say they don't really matter. I would wrap this in with any On-site SEO you usually do in the early stages of any website.

No AMPAMP

AdSense Revenue
  • AdSense ads added to site on 03/15/2019
  • Ads placement is handled by theme settings
  • $17.65 lifetime earnings

SERP Results (Thanks SerpRobot)

  • Good growth in Keywords, traffic, and backlinks from SEMRUSH
  • Around 100 organic keywords I started to notice more traffic.

Lessons Learned
  • Post more articles up front twice a week (have more articles before launching website)
  • Be patient, google takes their time.
  • Write good quality content.
  • If you buy from a writer you get what you pay for. Some of my best performing articles are from writers not me. ($4 / 100 words)
  • Use AMP because it can give you an edge in SERPS
  • Well worded alt tags can bring in many visitors from image search results.
  • Try to reach 100 organic keywords within the first few months
  • The google sandbox is a thing, be ready to leave you website sit for a few months before any movement.
  • Reddit can be a very good source of traffic. If you write good articles you’ll get upvotes in the niche subreddits

Plan For Next Project
  • Faster Web hosting
  • Find smaller more precise niche, so I won’t need as much content to rank.
  • Have a lot of content in the back before starting the site.
  • Write and post quickly and heavily as I can to reach 20 articles.
  • Once 20 articles is reached post 1 articles every other week for 2 months.
  • Once 20 articles + posting bi-weekly allow the site and google do its thing for 4-5 months.
  • While waiting do manual blog outreach to try to get some natural backlinks.
  • Start the site without any ads.
  • Wait until 1k monthly users before adding AdSense and opt-in form.
  • More interlinking throughout all the pages.
  • Better ad placement
  • Focus more on Reddit/Facebook. Maybe Quora
  • Create voice overs for articles so people can listen instead of read. (something different and unique)
  • May make 2D animation explainer YouTube videos for harder to rank keywords.

  • POST MORE ARTICLES. GIVE GOOGLE THAT CONTENT!

Thanks for reading!

Great Start with just few articles, just add more content to see great results!

great insight. Best of luck with your next project. Have you looked into a different ad network?

It will be very interesting to follow your journey, are you going to post it as separate thread or keep it in this one?
Do you use any specific plugin for automatic articles interlinking there or manually place links in articles to your other related ones?

It will be a separate new thread.

I did all the interlinking myself. Often would go back and rewrite a little in order to link to a new article and keep a good flow.

Impressive growth man !
How much words do you have per article ?

Which plugin are you using for Amp?
The AMP part was actually handled by the Theme. Don't want to disclose which theme but its a popular one on ThemeForest.
