I totally understand what you are saying but Google is trying to monetize every possible "keyword".
Keywords like "Best of products" are littered with Shopping Ads, and they end up eating some CTR.
If that's not enough you have Youtube videos in the SERP as well.
And this is happening with most of the keywords.

You're right. Sadly, there's nothing we can do about it except targeting the type of keywords I mentioned and trying to rank as high as possible.
 
My most profitable keyword ranking 1 used to get me 38% - 42% conversion rate.

Now I am still number 1 in same keyword and getting 3 - 4% conversion max thanks to shopping results, google ads.

Same goes for other keywords but thanks to their ads and featured snippet lost of 90% of my revenue.

So, yes .. SEO is a joke nowdays. They just use your website and content to get visitors then funnel them through their shopping and text ads. If not, they still control it through their map and feature snippet results.

They even use your content to show to visitor in their snippet without your permission. Last time they panelize you for copying others content to their website. Looks like they are doing the same with no problem

So, yeah, just like the real world, its a f**** world where the rich get away with whatever he wants.
 
YouTube videos appearing in Google search is a nightmare for website publishers. There are separate sections for images and videos but still videos in general Serps is unacceptable. Bing is also following the same concept.

Haha. It's easy once you learn how to jockey and switch players fast. It used to be difficult for me but I kept on practicing and now it's easy. Also, learn how to defend with your CDMs in the midfield instead of bringing your defenders out of position.

Lets take a moment to appreciate whoever came up with those ads that have such crazy CTR and conversion rates, that this poor organic fella ranked just below them, lost most of the attribution capabilities.

Perhaps it is time for more SEOers to become PPCers.

My understanding of this was to protect content produced by huge sites news sites owned by news mogals.

Just the established super rich being protected against the new, not fully paid up members of the club yet, super rich.

This legislation does jack sh*t for the ordinary seo'r.

Pretty soon the only option the smaller guy wlil have left will be on the darkweb and with niches that the big players won't touch as they are "below" them or are simply illegal.

I detest monopolies almost as much as I detest the politicians they have in their back pockets.

I am in the ppc arena of course -_-
However it has nothing to do with the thread so I felt mo mention to say that.

Basically if you are making good money from google, they will ask for their cut. Like I said 1000 times in this forum. Seo is the free trial tool for google ads.

So, its goal is to convert you into ppc not to reward you for your wonderful content and great backlinks

The only difference we the webmasters are the ones who made google in the first place. Without our websites what is left to google?

I feel like this goes 2x for FB as well. I remember when fan page numbers soared and average user was subscribed to more every week, they decided to use more and more algo powers to decide what to show the user and obviously the reach for fan page admins tanked. Some even invested money into building their fan pages that now required sponsored posts to keep reaching people they already paid for once. That's even more evil than Google.
 
It's fascinating to me how much things are going on these days (in last 2 years).
I remember having a client that was just pulling product feeds from some X site that had AWin products and doing ads on Google - that shit worked even then.

You shouldn't really be surprised by the changes of Google, it's all about money.
