The updates from the past several months have made Google more like a website, where products and services are directly showed on their search pages instead of only linking towards websites. This has completely changed the search behavior, where users no longer need to go to the website. Should Google pay the websites for showing their content? Google is not a search engine anymore.

I would agree with you I have been thinking that for a few years like quite a lot of people for me it would better if they would focus on being a Search engine more than a kind of like trying 100 or so new things a year then I guess they all workout for them such as when they tried out G+ then it failed among other failures of them.

Why does it change search behavior? When I search on Google, I just search and click on websites until I've found what I was looking for. Maybe it is that these days people get distracted very fast and therefore in midst of their search start to look at products which are shown to them and maybe even buy them. Focus can be considered something special these days.

When you search for an answer, google gives you the answer. No need to click.

How old is Al Pacino?
What is the population of Amsterdam?
What are the lyrics to Gimme Shelter?

Unless you are asking more complex questions.

How to grow weed?
How to play guitar?
How to fuck my neighbour?

That last one leads to a Quora article. But really the short answer is "grow weed and play guitar".

Ads and sponsored content is one of the ways they make profit....now the problem with corporates and companies is that they need to keep increasing this profit forever for their investors and shareholders. To increase this profit they need to devise new methods and tricks.....so showing ecommerce shopping products and then showing bits and pieces of content from other websites are some of these ways. They might also make the search engine paid to be free from ads just like youtube. This is neverending and the product suffers in the end. This leads to downfall and the cycle continues. Some non profit like wikipedia or some open source search engine will be better since they will focus more on the product rather than accessorize the product and forget about the functionality of the core product.

That is very bad.

Baidu.com think about doing the same thing about 5 years ago, they put information on the search result. So you don't need to go to the website which provides the information. It's like stealing information from the website.

The owner of the website provides the information but they don't get visitors now, why they should generate content? It's ending.

That is called AMP and website owners design their website for it. I'm not sure if google pay for them but I don't think so, and as I said without website owner's permission google do not do that

The E.U Commision started an investigation regarding this isssue......if you take my shit and display it in the snippets or in other form that will prevent visitors to visit my website and make a profit from my original work....PAY ME BITCH.

Oh and as an aside...

With all of the developments in Ai content creation tools, albeit early days, what content do you think will be ranking and showing to searchers in the future...

Yours or the content generated by search engine Ai's?

They have access to your searches, they have access to peoples emails (well over 95% of the emails I collect are gmail), they have access to your location, they have access to virtually all your data...

...they know us better than we know ourselves.

They will be able to create content tailored to your wants and needs on the fly.

How are you going to compete with that?

I'm not normally a fan of over regulation, but these non elected, undemocratic behemoths need to have their power reigned in asap or thay will control society from the top to the bottom.

Google has been trying to reduce the need to visit websites since a long time. They want users to spend most of their time on Google instead of visiting other sites so that they can earn more ad income.

I like to think of Google as a gigantic vacuum cleaner.

It literally sucks up all of the wealth and your hard work from across the globe.

And it doesn't give a shit about you at all.

The web is so completely saturated that you are just another website amongst billions of others.

The solution is simple... focus on niches and keywords where quick answers won't satisfy the search query.

For example:

- How to potty train a puppy
- Best vacuum cleaners
- Stock market investing guide
- How to defend in FIFA 21
- Dyson V11 review

There are tons of them, and the best part is they are more profitable than search queries that can be satisfied with quick answers.
