$20k is a lot, but spending around $10k is worth it especially for a business, you will notice exponential growth in followers. people will follow you just coz you have a sexy blue tick and expect follow back from you so they can brag that a dude with a blue tick is following them.

It depends on the kind of account or page you're running. The Instagram page of an ecommerce website doesn't need your face bragging or anything.
There are types of pages you would need to make personal posts, show your face, do some videos. Over time you gain trust from your followers, I know some pages run this way.

I always think that this verification in social media serves as the submittion of that this person is not a fake, because he/she provides all the documents which confirm that he/she is really he/she. In my opinion, it's not overhyped but just was created for the safety of fans. All of them try to find their idol on social media and always face various fakes. I believe that of course there are some celebrities or people who just do it for nothing, just because they wantto show their advantage over ordinary users, nevertheless the vast majority does it because of the reason which I pointed above. Just a safety measure actually.
It is worth the investment for businesses. As for personal branding, it depends.
No one spends even a cent for verification. People spend 2k or 20k or may be 20 million only for stealth based verifications.
They shouldn't have to, if things go the right way.

Total waste of money because if you already an public figure and an recognisable person your account will auto got verify by Facebook, Twitter, Instagram..
i personally say i know why spend so much money for just an Blue tick instead i prefer an Blue Jr.vip batch which i already have and i am Pretty satisfied
