Is it a bad idea to start an Amazon affiliate website now?

As we know Amazon has slashed affiliate commissions by a huge amount after 21st April with no clarity whether this has been done temporarily due to the pandemic situation or it's a permanent change. So would it be a bad idea to start any new Amazon affiliate sites now? Is there any chance that Amazon brings back the original rates later once the situation becomes normal? Or shall we just forget about Amazon and look into other networks?

The change is permanent. My opinion, if you're about to start look into other networks too.

I guess some would say better to be a serf than starve to death...

To others, it would be freedom or death..
 
Better to focus on other programs that pay higher. There ate many networks that will give 10 times returns with same effort.
 
If you are just starting out you can differently start with amazon affiliate. Don't focus on the commissions first. Focus on learning.
 
Amazon has already said it's a permanent change.

They have made changes to their commission structure before and never "gone back".

Many people still make lots of money from Amazon but most successful Amazon sites are diversified with ads and other affiliate programs.

Some niches got hammered, some only dropped a little and some were unchanged.

Amazon's conversions and ability to upsell and add-on made up for their low rates. I'm not sure that's true anymore.
 
I've been an Associate for about 6 years, sold all of my sites before this latest shit went down. Had plans of doing one more run with it, but you can be sure that I never will. Not with these commissions and sociopaths as CEOs.

Yes. I haven't started yet. Had been thinking on starting some since some time and when I finally was about to start, this happened. Will go with other networks.

I'm new to the affiliate marketing scene but not to IM. I've got other projects running and wanted to start with some affiliate sites as a side project. And the sudden extreme reduction in amazon commissions has made me rethink.
 
I started in January, when I started to get some traffic, that shitty news came.

Then there are tons of affiliate networks out there that are much better than amazon.
 
Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Diversify your monetization and apply to other networks. Getting $1 for selling a $100 item is not worth it. FUCK BEZOS!
 
Just go for non-Amazon niches dude. Like VPNs or something.

You can start a new site following the well-known "amazon affiliate site" route, BUT monetize without amazon. There are tons of merchants out there. Try them all and see which convert the best.
 
Just do a simple google search, amazon is not the only one, threre are plenty of other Affiliate Networks. Here are just a few below.

Then you see people have ordered A red onion and other bits of groceries, plus a couple of 0% items.


You don't know to laugh or cry some days.
