Is Facebook a viable option?

Social media is for entertainment. You have to be very very very creative to sell products through fb or twitter.
If you have capital to buy traffic then buy it from ad networks. You can start with self-serve networks like adsonar, buysellads, adsdaq etc.

Thanks for your input Hollinger. I'm not actually selling anything. My aim is to simply encourage people to complete a free quote form. If it's free to the user does that change things or do the same rules still apply?

No. You aren't just offering a free quote, you are looking to sell to them in the future, therefore it doesn't change any rules.

Oh you've seen my site have you?

The information doesn't even go to me and like I said, I don't sell anything.

Wot a tit.

Okay, so you are just doing it for free then? Yeah right, looks like you're the tit idiot.

definitely depends on the niche. and how you approach it.

definitely have to be creative, works better if the people you befriend have a genuine want need for the product you are pushing, and the fact that they will buy it again.

you need to interact with them and provide something that they want to see. photos videos news etc. things they can comment on.

i dont do cpa stuff i have ecom sites with proper stock etc so i can use facebook to offer them special deals etc.

You should probably concentrate on your serps and rank for those keywords organically rather than paying for it. hard work but it is doable with some dedication.

I hate to break it to you people, but you're giving the op some pretty lame answers.

FACEBOOK is the top dog. And the only secret to marketing effectively on FB and other social media networks is two things: You have to give a shit, and you can't be using "CLICK HERE BUY NOW" old world tactics. This does not work with social media marketing. Selling does nothing. You must engage.

The fact that you're even questioning whether or not to use Facebook means you have a long way to go, and maybe need to take a few steps back and build your foundation first. But to answer your initial question, YES Facebook is one the most viable and direct ways to reach your exact audience, provide them with a great experience, and watch them tell everyone they know.

It's a beautiful thing.

also try forum posting, there are plenty of site/forums that have section to post links, back links etc.. heck you could even make a my$pace page to get more traffic them build up to the faceb**k also i believe google has a tool u can use that list ****** social networking website and there net total registered users. with again u can make promotional accounts on muti sites, also multi blogging can give you good back linking, a cool little trick is Y0utube and made short video's about whatever it is your trying to promote( using key words to grab ppl)(( even if you dro- [boob ,sex etc etc.. and common hot searches)) hope this helps cheers

Cheers for that useful input guys. Particularly interested in what you said btheory.

I have some ideas about how to provide useful content etc. - do you mind answering a couple of my initial questions on how best to do this?

Do you find it better to simply use a normal account with a real person name for example - then get involved in groups and chats on the subject? Or do you go for Facebook ads? Or both?

On the other hand do you go directly in with a business page? This way seems a bit too direct and I suspect that acting as a normal person would on Facebook and providing useful input on the subject would end up being more successful.
