Maybe I'm doing it wrong but when I view the marketplace it only ever has a couple things per category and they're all scams even with high gravity. Is that the purpose for clickbank? It seems to me if you are going to be marketing an inferior scam product you might as well set a scam in place yourself and post it on clickbank for others to market for you. Did I just crack clickbank secret?

There is a lot of crap on clickbank. But some products are good, and people and customers know that. Do a better search, don't just look at gravity.
And I don't think clickbank could be an ideal choice for a scam, they have a 60 days refund policy. If your product appears to be a scam it will not last long.

Yes, most of the products on clickbank are rubbish but there are also some good useful ones. Some are useful but can be found mostly in the net, obvious scams ones would be like those game tester and translator jobs. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

As I had said in a similar thread, indeed one can find anything from absolute crap to top-notch products in the clickbank marketplace.
The answer to how to gauge the quality of a product before promoting it is actually very simple though - contact the vendor and ask for a copy.
If they do not respond, either it means that they are not confident in the quality of their products, or they have poor affiliate support. Both reasons to move on to the next vendor.

maybe not everything, but surely the vast majority. Especially the more popular stuff.
But there are also many products on CB that have been there for years with consistent sales and very low refund rates, mostly in non marketing related niches.

There is a lot of low-quality products on the Clickbank marketplace, but there are also some kick-ass products.
If you want to be "clean", stay away from health products that cure cancer, blindness, diabetes etc. Also avoid blatantly scammy money-making products.
There are some good products like WordPress plugins or fitness courses on there. But yeah, gravity is not a measure of how good a product is...

A good analogy, I've always considered the word "ebook" and "scam" to be synonymous to be honest. Fiction is different but any educational material you expect me to purchase when I'm sitting at a machine that holds the entirety of human knowledge at the type of a keyword.

Many Clickbank ebooks are like college since in both situations you're paying for information that is available for free on the Internet or at a library (both are scams in my opinion). I used to associate ebooks with the Amazon Kindle, but when I started affiliate marketing, I began seeing ebooks that are not on a reputable website (Clickbank is reputable, but the vendors aren't always reputable) as scams.

The numbers are so high with a platform like that - there will of course be a lot of scams. There will also be a lot of people trying to write a genuinely useful info product, but sucks at it. But the total number of products available is huge. You definitely need to search through a lot of crap products in the CB Marketplace to find the good ones, but they are there.
Some are total scams. Some are pure garbage with high refund rate. But there are many others that are worthwhile and if targeted to the right market will get sales and have a low refund rate. Those are the ones you want to find and market. That's part of your job if you want to be an affiliate marketer.
Part of the reason you have to search through so much crap is because of people like us here on BHW and even more so people on other marketing forums I'll leave unmentioned. One of the big money making ideas described in tons of threads is to write up some quick info product and sell it on clickbank. A few years ago probably about 90% of the marketing methods presented to every noob wanting to "make money fast" included creating your own info product to sell as one of the key steps.
There are a lot of great info products for sell on Clickbank on just about any topic you can think of. But knowing what you've learned from marketing forums, is it any wonder that you'll have to sift through tons of garbage info products before you'll actually find any good ones to market as an affiliate?

None of that matters for the actual buyers though. If you're doing affiliate marketing correctly then the buyers aren't searching through the clickbank marketplace themselves. You've done that part for them and then targeted them with he specific good info products that will be of benefit to them. It doesn't matter how many crap products are available on clickbank, it only matters that the one product you're presenting is a good one for the market your targeting.
Affiliates do the job of sifting through all the junk products themselves. All the buyer looks at is the one product the affiliate found that would be useful for them.. If you can do that right then you'll have success as an affiliate marketer, unfortunately it's not always an easy thing to accomplish.
