the edit is only a simple trick to "force" YouTube index to update the video, how do i know that it needs an update? if for several days the views that are counted on the video counter don't reflect on the index listing, so does the index position is "stuck", when you manage to edit the video, the republished video will update the index with the correct counting .
this is not related to the fast traffic, or the drip-feed views traffic, but i can only guess that stopping the traffic to 0 zero traffic may cause the paush in the index service it's only logical for YT to save resources
