Instagram Journey to $100K

I've been asked how did I setup my posting/campaigns...

I have about 10 destination lists + Campaigns going...

4 of the lists/campaigns have 10-20 accounts each. (Macro niches - very broad like nature, food, travel)

3 other lists/campaigns are smaller niche related and have only 3 accounts. (more specific like forests, desserts, paris)

3 other lists/campaigns only have 1 account in each one. Very specific, very targetted. (extremely specific like coffee latte art. etc...)

These are not my niches. Feel free to steal them. Ha!

I added 1000 posts to each campaign and set the advanced setting to post a different picture in each account (rather than send the same post to 20 accounts). I also set to choose a random post, and have also shuffled the posts and set posts to re-add to the pool of posts after being used, that way these will post forever without any intervention... Lastly I set the number of posts either to 1 a day, 2 a day, 3 a day or 1-3 a day.

Wow, 1000 posts to each campaign are so 10000 posts? Is a big work select 10k pics HQ.
so in the advanced setting you check "choose a random post from the post lists" ? or "choose a single randome image for posts with multiple images"? im setting up something similar and your help would be useful. Thank you

Wow!
A lot of info here. First of all, congrats and thank you for all detailed information.
This model is something i am aiming for but i will go with 50 accounts ( i have enough savings to fuel 50 accounts for a long time without monetization).
I am preping everything as you suggested (names, bios, pictures etc) and i think everything will be ready in a week or two. Two questions tho...

1. If you follow 500 users per day, why dont you set MP to unfollow 500 users X days after you followed them?
2. I know that you had only 1 issue with image (copyright or something) , why don't you get Unique image modul for MP? I think it changes hash tags or something, but i think it's quite good to prevent stuff like that from happening.

This is taking waaaaaay longer than expected. Takes me about 6 hours to setup 30-60 products each day. I have collected around 450 related products on my niche, but only entered 200 of them, so only halfway so far...

I'm creating a new name for every product, because the AliExpress ones are garbage and don't offer any specialty or narrative that makes users appreciate the product more (and increase the price!)

I'm making a guess at how much to price the products. I don't know if they are too high. Has anyone had any success with Dynamic Pricing apps? An app that will find the best price for a product to maximize profit? I'm only guessing here, but I am manually typing prices that I hope my price point is close to #3 below to Maximize Profit.

1. Sell 10 at $5 = $50
2. Sell 8 at $10 = $80
3. Sell 6 at $15 = $90
4. Sell 4 at $20 = $80
5. Sell 2 at $25 = $50
6. Sell 1 at $30 = $30

Challenges with setting up a store so far.
1. Some products on my Aliexpress list have bad reviews, so I deleted them.
2. Some have no reviews, or few orders. I had to make a choice to delete or keep some of them.
3. No ePacket shipping. Deleted.
4. Splitting 1 AliExpress product into multiple products - This is a pain but must be done sometimes. AliExpress will sometimes put 10 very different variations of one product which are actually completely different products. So I split them up.
5. Setting up Metadata - VERY IMPORTANT - this helps shopping cart apps to suggest Related Items to upsell more products. Example: If your buyer is looking at Silver Ferrari Keychains, then also suggest other Ferrari Products (Hats, Gloves, Pins, etc) and other Keychain Products (Porsche, Bugatti, BMW), and Silver Jewelry (Rings, Necklaces, Silver iPhone Case)...

To answer Borisha's question:
From what I've read in these forums (which may be true, half-true, or completely wrong so always experiment yourself), people have reported solid results doing a follow-only campaign, then an unfollow-only campaign. Those who do both at the same time have reported mixed results - ie some say its fine, others have their accounts blocked. For me, it is easier to just let all accounts do one thing, then I don't have to worry about it bc I know exactly where and what my accounts are doing, no guessing. So for me, Follow Only (7500) and unfollow-only (7500) has worked perfectly.

I am actually just fine with the way you did it, since it is safe for the aacounts and that is the only thing i will care about. I want these accounts to last long

First wish you all the luck on your journey.
You should go for Oberlo to save your time, i have a website in fashion niche and i add 100 products daily it take 1 to 2 hours to modify titles, correct description and change variant images.
you can also split products by variants and filter products by epacket.
Just create demo shopify store and install app you get free trial for 15 days. Import few products and see how that works out for you.
Fulfilling products is also easy as you don't have to fulfill any details Oberlo chrome extension does it all.

Really you have shared a lucrative journey. Can see your bright future. Go ahead.

What an awesome journey!

I'm an entrepreneur myself and I think you made one mistake (can be corrected): you didn't experiment with products early on. I would have started experimenting when i had 5K followers for a specific niche. It will take a few months to understand what products a targeted audience likes.

Anyway, please keep updating. Good luck.

Yeah, Setting up the Shopify Website + Oberlo is taking waaaaaaaaay more time than planned. I didn't just want to toss a few aliexpress items on a site and send my followers there. I wanted to actually create an experience like a professional website. Maybe this is breaking my rule of testing fast and cheap, hmmmm. Oh well, nearly finished for the launch next week.

Where my time is going....

There are many add-ons. It has taken me 2 to 3 weeks to research, install, test, configure the apps. What sort of apps? According to the numerous best practices and top 2016 shopify apps of the year every store should consider how to deal with:

1. Recover Abandoned Carts (80% of shopping carts are usually abandoned, some apps claim 7-25% recovery)

2. Recommend Related Items (This type of upselling/crossselling can see increases os 10-20% profit)

3. Capture email addresses + Incentive (giveaway or coupon)

4. Different Upsell and Cross-sell strategies (ie, Free stuff for orders over $50... Stats show carts can increase 10-30%)

5. Email Campaign Strategy to nurture 2nd, 3rd, 4th purchases (Studies show it's cheaper to get repeat customers, than get new ones)

6. Social Media - share with friends, refer-a-friend

7. Coupons (exit offers)

8. Customer Service related - self-lookup order tracking (prevents customer from asking you, they can do it themselves)

This also required hiring a graphic designer to create professional looking banners in all sizes for different Apps, Email Sizes, Banners...

Oberlo Repricing Accident - I somehow left the pricing to be auto-adjusted, and all my prices got reset to cheap aliexpress prices. Took me 6 hours to change 400 products from $.80-$9 to $16 - $35

Writing! lots and lots of writing and rewriting. Every f'ing email has to be done by hand in your style, your logo, your niche's words.
ie, if you're selling an australian product, its better to have an email that reads
"G'day mate, thanks for making a purchase from down under!" rather than Shopify's standard "Thank you for making a purchase"...

I was hoping to launch this week, and was going crazy, 12-hour work days, loss of vision, blurry vision, headaches, crappy sleeps, nervousness, anxiety.. everything that is not me. I decided to calm down, and launch next week. Pace yourselves guys.

Great Thread. I'm starting the same thing with about 50 accs.

take a chill pill and enjoy that beautiful Thai weather. Hope you are doing good on your journey, glad you picked shopify!

Manually or you have some type of software/website? i will be following your journey. Good luck mate!

I have been doing online marketing full time for a very long time, and I have mostly lurked in a lot of forums. However, I must say that it's seldom one comes across a post that is as detailed and generous as yours. For those of us who truly understand the value of what you have provided, I wanted to say a BIG thank you! :)

After having read all your posts I have two questions so far.

You mentioned that your largest account had a "better username" and you believe that this may have been part of the additional success of that account compared to the others.

I wonder if you would perhaps be willing to expand on that a little? Obviously without revealing your niche, but perhaps you could give a few examples of what you would consider "good usernames" for a couple of niches?

Another question relates to what you are expecting in terms of clicks and sales.

You mention that you are expecting "1000 sales" as this would "only be a conversion rate of 0.001%" but it's not quite clear to me in what sort of time frame you are looking at in regards to that comment?

Are you expecting 1000 sales from every promotion that you do, (I noticed that you were considering someone else's suggestions of weekly promotions), or is that the total number of sales you expect per month or per year from multiple promotions or "call to action" posts?

I understand that any answer you would give at this stage is purely speculation, but I'm curious since I have hardly been able to find ANY information (anywhere online including FB groups etc) about what sort of CTR one can expect from either the bio link or from a call to action post on IG.

Of course this probably varies a lot between different niches, but SOME data...ANY DATA on this would be valuable to me at this stage, so I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it?

I'm very much looking forward to continue to follow your journey. Considering the mindset you have I'm sure you will be very successful indeed. ;)

5a. I created a solid business plan. The plan didn't require me to make money at all costs right away. The plan did require me to have at least 1 Million Followers, so if .001% of my followers respond which is EXTREMELY low, what a poor number!, thats still 1000 buyers.

How did you get that number? If I do a rough estimate it would look like this:

1. Not all of your 1'000'000 followers will see the promotion, but for for keeping it simple let's assume you get a 1% CTR on the post. Which is still too high I guess since people have to go to your profile to click through. This results in 10'000 website visits.

2. Now this is cold traffic as in you're generating a need (Display) rather than fulfilling a need (Adwords/Search). So for cold traffic I'd assume a 1% CR which will result in 100 sales.

Anyway, I'm following your journey very closely and I'm looking forward to see the stats for your promotions!

Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!

1.2 Million Followers
Total Revenue: $100
Total Profit: $75
# of Sales: 17

Promotion #1: "We're Open Check Us Out" - Blasted 1 ad daily across 20 Accounts for 1 week. Generated 200 unique visitors, no sales

Promotion #2: "Check out these cool products" (12 different Ads with different products) - blasted for 4 days across 30 Accounts, 200 unique views, 1 sale

Promotion #3: "Free Product! Just pay $X.XX for Shipping" - Currently running across 30 Accounts for the past 6 hours... 15 Sales

Other: 1 Sale from Upsell email 3-days later. (Thanks for your purchase! Heres an additional 15% off your next order. Expires in 2 weeks)

Commentary
So Promotion #3 is clearly the winner... During the promotion some customers purchased high quantities - On AliExpress I only pay once for the E-Packet, so the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc items from the same seller get it for free. This is extra profit :) Other customers purchased random products not related to the sale.

Longer Term, I also have 17 Customer Email Addresses for further promotions, sales, newsletters, cross promotions, which may yield anywhere from 25-200% more profit down the line.

Another Learning: I only had 1 account that was 100% in this microniche, the other accounts overlap but are not in this microniche. For my next follow cycle, I have updated 30 accounts to all follow followers of the microniche. Estimate: 30 accounts x 7500 x 15% followback = 33,000 potential microniche customers. I'll monitor this, and keep mass-growing the microniche across all my accounts.

And I appreciate everyone's feedback! I definitely have gained insights from your comments and experience.

Getting 1.2 Million Followers isn't the finish line. It's just the beginning ;)
