They could be using facebook contacts and likes to determine how personal your feed is, to me it sounds like they are giving verified accounts and friends top priority
This won't happen as you don't even have to connect your Facebook with Instagram

The beginning of the end may have arrived.
We just have to post more if we want to get our content. Post 10 pics a day and 5 will get seen no problem lol. Your friends will only post 1-2 a day.
Sucks when you worked so hard and invested so much time and money into a platform then they say "you want your content seen? pay."
No. If I don't engage with your content, you can spam 100 photos and I'll never see one of them, because the 100 other accounts I engage with are on top of you.
This algorithm is based on individual preference, so if I follow Justin Bieber, but never engage with his content, he'll never reach my top spot no matter how many likes he gets!
Small business will even do better, remember if they follow you and Justin Bieber, but never likes his photos, you'll appear on top. He won't appear on top because he globally have many likes.
Its actually based on time as well. The first 3-4 photos will photos that you may have missed from 12 hours ago. Then the next 5 or so you'll see the latest ones then a mix other things. Read the NYTimes article.
Look on your facebook feed. Its its mix of engagement, time and a lot of other things.
Which why I say upload 10 a day they'll most likely see your content in you spread them throughout the day.
I'm starting to see my likes go up faster
