Instagram is switching its feed from chronological to best posts first

Huge news. This will drown out the lame marketers and the smart ones will remain.

Isn't this a good thing for us for the most part? I'd imagine we have more engagement than the average user so wouldn't our posts show up more than theirs in this case?

Agreed, all depends on your engagement tbh.

Well, this is not good news imho ... it is facebook story all over again. Zuckerberg chooses for us, what are we going to see .

This is the best news ever! Now I don't have to worry that my followers won't see my post because it gets drowned in all the other posts. This will keep spam and low quality posts out of my followers feed (and my own). I see that my engagement should likely increase dramatically by this change.

If you have a follower that follow 250 other users, and all upload one picture after you before the persons log in, then you are the bottom of their feed and the person will never see your post and you lose engagement.

What I dont understand is that IG doesn't know who our "friends" are unless its linked to FB. If there algorithm favors engagement then most of the stuff that shows up at the top will be humor accounts. Also now that brands realize they're having trouble getting their content seen they're going to just post more flooding peoples food then ultimately the photos from our friends who only post once or twice a day will be lost in the stream.

This is so stupid. They're probably doing this to encourage brands to pay. Why not simple allow users to unfollow people who dont post interesting stuff rather than try be fancy with an algorithm.

How will this affect those using bots and those who are not smart about it gaming the system (not referring to people on here)? I'm currently not using it but I'd imagine the images they're liking based on all of those tags will just help those users.

Because people usually follow 100s of accounts for various reasons. I like on Facebook to first have a look at the default top posts from my friends, this way I'm not missing something big just because I was a sleep, and then switch to the most recent feed. This is especially useful for me having a majority of my friends in a -8 hours time zone, so they post all their stuff while I'm a sleep. I see this is as really good news, as I post photos which are interesting for a world wide audience and now I can appear n the top of their feed no matter if they were a sleep when I post it - of course if they engage with my content that is.

I'm surprisingly excited for this, and if this works well, it means that our posts should normally get more engagement, and the people that usually engage with our feed have a better probability of keeping being engaged.

I'm honestly looking forward to this.

Best Regards,
Jaymien.

Just post good relevant content, not the end of the world.

Ohhhh, I've been waiting for this! Good news.

Just post good relevant content, not the end of the world.

This is what everyone should already been doing to achieve success on Instagram.
