Instagram dead for a photographer - after update?

I don't really think it's dead for photographers, the think is you need to reshape yourself to be able to get that engagement again, with this updates coming .. :?

Your content is probably garbage and you don't have a base audience to grind on.

You can consider Pinterest as an option. Other than that, it would be great if you build your profile on Unsplash. We can say that Instagram is focusing more on video content nowadays. But you can grow as a photographer if you use the platform with a little shift in the approach. Try Reels, IGTV. There are a lot of young and enthusiastic photographers out there who want to learn photography. The audience is there.
It is true that only photos won't do the magic. So, consider going for video content.

Im also a photographer, the game is hard on instagram and growing an audience there is really hard unless you accept to do photos tailored for instagram (lots of colours, strong lights, with a women in the picture).

I think using youtube will also help you to get an audience. Doing tutorials i would not advise, but more lifestyle videos. You can check youtubers ivan chow, vuhlandes, trovatten and so on to see what i mean.

Go for NFT art & telegram channels, explore this niche it's hot and it's the next trending thing for a decade from now.
Use forums to promote your works.

You may ignore this advice, but maybe years later you will remind yourself of this post, so take some action pal! :)
Also use Pinterest, they are very friendly, the images (if unique) will rank immediately on Google.

I am based in Sweden and I use it, my wife uses it, all her female friends use Pinterest.
I know at least 30 women in Gothenburg that use Pinterest daily (usually over 30).

I believe others use it as well, simply they are not your age group or you never had a chance to discuss that with them.
I haven’t been online here for some days/weeks, but I will give Pinterest a try, do you know any specific video/videos on YouTube to get started with?

Do considered Pinterest as another Option !
I will try it out! But I don’t know shit about that app, I need to learn through yt hehe.. do you know a specific video/videos or creator who teach about to grow on the app?

Have you started already? I'll advise you to start something and learn through the process.
Visit YouTube, that's where you should be searching.
Just know what to look for and don't get distracted by cat videos.
Take action!
I haven’t been online here for a while and just saw your comment. I will go on YouTube now and search for Pinterest and how to start as a newbie hehe..

I want to try YouTube as well but don’t know how to start, I mean I know what my channel will be about and what I should call it but don’t know what I should do
- tutorials is to hard for me from beginning because I am not a pro jet and there is people out there who is smarter then me
- I haven’t someone who can follow me for free and record me while I am out there and photograph
- I can’t afford a GoPro right now to put on my stomach and record while I photograph

cat videos is not for me even if they are cute, on YouTube I search for motivational stuff like entrepreneurs or something I can learn from
Why limit yourself to photos? Add videos, reels and longer videos with IGTV and you're good to go.

Things will never remain the same, with another update, they might ditch something else and you will have to keep updating yourself.
I know that things change over time, that’s normal in a modern society, but I can’t find the perfect solution for me with zero to 10$ to put in. When it comes to reels, I can only see that someone needs to help me out and my friends or girlfriend or brother can’t follow me everywhere I go with a camera they have their stuff and job to follow, any suggestions on content on reels?

It is true that only photos won't do the magic. So, consider going for video content.
Any suggestions on content where it’s only me, my canon and a iPhone Xr? Thanks

I prefer YouTube over Instagram right now, but I don’t know how to start and what I should do, as I told someone above, I don’t have much money to spend and people can’t follow me on their free time and record me when i run around and photograph or climb to take a photo, and I can’t afford a GoPro and have it on my stomach when I photograph. I will look for the creators you write about, thanks :)

I will try Pinterest out, do you know if I can go national on there? I mean do you think there is many people who want to see street photography on Pinterest hehe?

I have never heard about unsplash, is it like istock? There people post theirs photos so everyone can buy them?

as I told few people in here, I haven’t that kind of money to spend on equipment or to pay people to follow me and record when I photograph, do you have any suggestions on what I can do in Tiktok/Instagram with video?

I think moving to other photo-sharing platforms is a good idea, because later those will be crowded too then the same problem rais as IG.

Suggest me more platforms for photographers..

Thanks

Hi folks! :)

I saw yesterday that Instagram said that the platform is not an "photo-sharing" app anymore. And yes, they maybe are right and that's the way to go, and they will start focusing on video instead of pictures. And that's bad not only for me as a photographer.

My plan was to get followers on Instagram (around 1-10k) then create a YT channel to start producing videos and/or tutorials/how I shoot my pictures meanwhile I update my "portfolio". But I think that "dream" is dead now with Instagrams new update...

What are you guys suggesting me to do?
Any links about how to start a YouTube channel as a photographer?

I want to learn as much as possible. I like the process and the journey to 100k followers, I like to work hard and want to fulfill my dreams as a photographer/social media creator. It's a long journey, yes! It will take some years, YES! But I want to do my best to get to 100K followers.
Hi! You don't have to worry about it. If you have high-quality, original and interesting content, people will reach out to you, whether it's Instagram or something else. But, in any case, do not stop only at this, try yourself in other social networks.
