I'm wondering what is the maximum quality we can upload to instagram?

In the Ascend Viral book it says instagram values high quality content as it takes image quality in order to rank a top post.

If I upload a 4k*4k pixel image will some user be able to download my image in original resolution?
Or does instagram compress my image to the highstest quality available, for example 1080*1080.

@IGKing ?

Thank you.

I think they are referring to the picture being a good picture. As far as the technical aspect... it's a pretty standard recommended format.

No, the book referred to downloading/screenshotting images in this chapter. So it was about image quality and not content.

I just found this online and this answered my question:

"Stick with the 1080 pixel width, and go up to 1350 pixels tall. If your photo is larger, no worries – Instagram will reduce it when you post. Try not to post smaller, though, as your image will lose quality when viewed on most devices, especially retina screens."

Hate the compression, you can't even download the good quality ones you upload even when you request for your data (afaik)

I wouldn't care to much about the highest resolution. I have seen really low quality pictures do well. Of course the higher res the better.
But just get out there and don't overthink it

Well. Good to know.
Actually I'm doing pretty good. Got more likes than followers on some posts but wondering why they are not showing in the top post's even if some of them have lesser likes than mine.

Instagram has a very strange way to decrease the quality of the posts ... It looks like very low quality, from a crazy 4k video or pictures
