What do you mean by not using API?
You mean mass follow from apps like statigram use API, but you find a way to make mass follow like if you was iPhone? Or what?

Perhaps the people are buying fake followers, maybe someone has a account creator that's pushing thousands of accounts daily, which I wouldn't be surprised if true.

I still struggle to see the value in Instagram, unless you have a way of effectively monetising mobile traffic. All of the studies I've read point to the fact that mobile advertising is clicked on far less than regular advertising (ie. in a normal browser). I'm loathe to play around with mobile traffic as a dedicated traffic stream...

Mobile ads are actually much more effective since it's harder to block mobile ads, and the ads take a bigger portion of a small screen so it definitely gets seen by users, therefore CPC for mobile ads are always higher.
Instagram botting is actually really good from my experience, for example I mass follow users and they in return follow me back, lately when checking my twitter replies I saw people thanking me for following them on Instagram and they then followed me on Twitter, so it really is a cross platform approach when botting Instagram.

If you want to get into botting, first do your research here and learn how to operate a bot properly. Following 100k users is not operating a bot properly.

A neat trick I have found is, that people create multiple accounts - and then mass mention people on their own pics . This seems to work great, and best part is your main account won't get banned. (As long you don't use the same IP for your mention accounts) WIth this trick, I have seen people commenting 40 comments per second on their own pic (each comment 4 users mentioned)
