This only just came to my attention and is giving good results, so it could be a well know technique, but if I was oblivious to it, I guess others might be as well.

When you search for terms in Tumblr, then action on those results, you are actioning (follow / liking etc) on the content providers, not the actual users who consume the content (although of course there is an overlap)

Wouldn't it be better to action on the users who actually read the blogs, who interact with them?

On the search results, you can see the notes in the search post section. The users who liked / reblogged an item, i.e. the users who read the content, the users who are interested in the content, the consumers.

Tie this in with a recent filter and you now have a list of active users, how are interested in a topic, thus a higher % of reciprocal interactions after you action on them.

Repeat this every few hours, all day, every day and your followers should soon go in an upwards direction

Good, I know this method but I can't automatize this one.

No script or macro ?

seems my signature isn't showing, is a link there, but there is a BST for the tumblr bot with note scraping
