Alright, while this is mostly common sense, I just saw like 5 Shitlist threads pop up, and just reminded me that some are too careless in their dealings, as most can really be prevented.

Ok, so lets assume you are looking to buy a service/hire a freelancer etc. , what should you look at to decrease chances of losing your money? Do NOT just read one bullet and think that is it, you really need to look at this as a whole. You would not buy a car because the engine is running but the transmission is broken...

  1. The most obvious one to begin with: Are they a new member or Jv VIP/ Marketplace seller.
    1. Of course a new member has $0 to lose, and all the scam money to win. New IP etc --> New account, rinse&repeat
    2. Marketplace seller without Jr VIP = $500 at risk. While scammers will be scammers if you buy something for $50, less likely to scam you
    3. JR Vip, well given you need 100 posts + $97 the chances are lower than a totally new account, but as usual, this is just one thing to look at
  2. If they offer a BST
    1. How long has it been running? Avoid brand new ones with no reviews, especially for high $ values
    2. Have they been active in their BST?
    3. How do the reviews look?
    4. Are reviews from aged accounts or mostly from brand new accounts?
  3. HAF
    1. If they respond to your request, ask about their knowledge etc. I see it so many times that many here respond to tons of HAF and just say "I can do this", or "I have a team" but never post much about their experience etc. Check their previous work, get samples etc
    2. Obviously do NOT use non-jr vips as they are not even supposed to respond
    3. Clear up everything in detail beforehand, ask very specific questions about issues you feel they may have.
      1. If all they say, yes no problem I can do it...I suggest move on. Nobody, did I say nobody, is perfect and there will always be some issues. You are best off with someone who points these out or provides a better answer than no problem I can do it...
      2. Make sure you set a specific timeline/milestones, do NOT pay 100% upfront.
  4. Delays
    1. If you set a deadline of May 20, 2021 and you do not hear anything on that day, you are more than likely already in some trouble. As a courtesy, you should receive a heads up BEFORE the deadline passes. Now, this is not always the worst-case scenario but make sure you get an answer and insights on WHY:
      1. do NOT fall for "emergency", as that is the most common BS used by scammers to make you feel bad for them and buy more time.
      2. Ask for some work completed until then, if they have 0 to show or give more excuses --> Proceed to the bottom of this
      3. Make sure to not set a deadline on your end but ask the freelancer, WHEN will he be done? They should know as they are doing the work, look if that is reasonable or not before you consider the next steps.

The most important of all PAYMENT
  1. NEVER!!!!!, pay with crypto unless you do not mind throwing away your money
  2. NEVER!!, pay with Paypal
  3. DO pay with CC/Paypal
  4. Use Upwork if freelancer is on there
    1. If not use your own Upwork account to hire them on there and pay the fee

No, in the event you still get scammed, file a shitlist on BHW, but you can also follow this:
  • Were you smart and did NOT pay with crypto
    • No
      • Well, I told you don't come complaining here.
    • Yes
      • Did you pay Paypal FF
        • Yes
          • Why are you here?
        • No
          • Well, see if the SL works out for you, if not
            • Dispute with Paypal
            • If Paypal is being a bitch, did you use a credit card to pay?
              • If yes then go to your bank and 99% of the time you will get your money back.
I had a few cases and disputed with my bank as Paypal did not give me my money back. Until this day still have that PP account and was not scammed money on here.

Again, I know there are more steps, etc. but the best I can say, use common fucking sense.

After reading your post, just checked the shitlist and in first 4 found that all accused are JrVip.
You need more research on that part.

Now, this is a must-read for everyone. Well done

Indeed

Did you also read that I said :

Look at all factors, and once again this all should be common sense to decrease 75%+ of being scammed.Again, pro scammers WILL find a way, but if youi follow all steps you will avoid most of this (like I never had been scammed, always go tmy money back)

- Here look one of them:
1620919496084.png
- Another ste multiple deadlines, got the emergency story etc...

- Oh another paid via BTC

This is NOT a 100% approach to prevent scamming as it would get too complex, but you can sure do your research and add more , I am sure you will enlighten us with great detail, as the three u missed above...

Amazing information on here. I had a question, if hiring via upwork and we paying the fee.. if by chance we still get scammed are we still eligible to open a shitlist as we didnT deal via bhw.. just a question!

Thanks for the precautionary steps man!

I am not fully familiar with the SL part you'd have to ask a mod here, but in the end, it is about
- SL : MAY get your money back IF the seller refunds. BHW is NOT a payment processor so there is no guarantee
- Paypal / CC / Upwork are processing your payments so you have multiple areas where you can get the money back even if the SL fails

Unless the deal originates on BHW we cannot help mediate as we only manage things that occur on this site.

Good suggestions but some are truly confusing:

Yes means No?

Do not pay with PayPal, but Do pay with PayPal...?

What of the service has a fixed price?
I'll pay you 50% after I test it?
1. Do not accept a freelancer just saying yes I can do it and says there won't be any problems
2. Do NOT Pay with Paypal FF , DO pay with regular Paypal (ideally funded by credit card)
3. HAF you set a budget, say $500. Do NOT pay 100% upfront.

You wrote something good for reading but that is far away from the truth. No one can stop or predict scams.
Dealing on any site is a gamble. I've been scammed by high-ranking users and had great deals with newbs that registered 2 days ago. The second thing is about PayPal. There is no chance that I will accept Paypal from anyone. My sales thread, my rules. Btw Jr.VIP is around 130$, depends on VAT.

I always pay with PayPal CC that way I am safe :D
Yep CC is best, ideally, you use
Payment Processor (Paypal or whatever) + CC and you have 2 places to get your money back.

Oh excuse me, this common-sense thread seemed much needed, but if you'd like to get it deleted contact a mod ;)

You missed the point. As I said, this is NOT a 100% kind of thing. You could do everything right and still get scammed. However, if you for example pay with a true credit card --> Go to your bank and get your money :) even if you have been scammed.

Well, do not accept PayPal if it works for you, I for one would NEVER pay with anything but a credit card for a random service.
Obviously, you cannot generalize everything, but it is a good start.

I had used Paypal as a seller, never had a chargeback, but depends on you of course. I'd use fraud detection, etc in conjunction, but then most sellers here do not even have a real ecom website so there is that.

I've been scammed with Paypal many times and with credit cards for amounts more than 7000$.
PayPal took my money and gave it back to the buyer with the name ˝ejbfdedf wndiqwdfq˝ and address ˝nwdje qwwjei qwesyqe 18˝. Like I said you can't say buy with PP or CC if the buyer sells for crypto only. Buyer can scam too. Get product and like you said he go to the bank and gets his money.

I've just checked the shit list and as one member said,4 of 5 scammers was Jr. VIP and they scammed for Paypal.

Ok let me clarify :

This is ONLY a suggestion for BUYERS. A business owner should know enough how to run a business and protect himself etc.
If I am the business I would
- Invest in fraud detection solution
- Log IPs, logs, confirmed PM/email receipt with IP log etc...

Anyway, you get the point.

And sure, if the seller only accepts Crypto then my suggestion: do NOT buy simple as that.

And paypal didn't close your account when you make a dispute with your bank?
I never charge back a paypal transaction from cc but common sense tell me Paypal will surely close your paypal account. Charge backs have something around $40-50 penalty fee for merchants (paypal) and no company will let you continue to use their services when you do such thing.

Can any one else confirm your claim?

Nope, never. Of course I do not have this all the time. Probably at most can count on two hands. In the end up to you how to handle this, but if paypal does not side with me for some BS reason --> Bank as they will always give me m money back (as all my cases were legit)
