I’m looking for advice or guidance on a project I’ve been working on. I’m an computer engineer with a good understanding of tools, and recently I started exploring ways to make money online through ebooks.
I created a Python program that uses OpenAI’s API to generate high-quality text ebooks. The program can produce books with 60-80 pages from input of 12–15 paragraphs on any topic or niche I choose. I’ve read some of the ebooks myself and shared them with friends, and the feedback has been great. These ebooks are text-only, like traditional books, and I’m happy with their quality. The program can generate up to 10 ebooks per day, and the cost of using the OpenAI API is around $2–3 per ebook. I’ve been taking things slow to avoid overspending, but the system works well.
To sell these ebooks, I’ve been using Gumroad as a platform for listing and selling the content. It’s straightforward to use and suits my needs for now.
My main challenge is marketing. I don’t have much experience in this area. I’ve taken a few courses in the past, but I still feel unsure about where to start or what steps to take. I’ve been trying different approaches to see what works.
On Pinterest, I’ve developed tools to semi-automate the creation of pins, including images, titles, and descriptions. I also use Pinterest’s bulk upload feature with .csv files to schedule up to 100 pins per day. This entire process takes me 2–3 hours per book and costs around $3–4. If I create 2–3 books, the cost doubles, but the time remains the same since I follow the same workflow. Despite my efforts, my pins have received 0 impressions, and I’m unsure if the issue is the bulk upload process, the AI-generated content, or if I’m just being impatient. I’ve paused my Pinterest activity for now because it’s been discouraging.
I also explored Facebook groups but find it challenging to understand how to gain followers or make my posts stand out in such a crowded space.
On Instagram, I recently ran an ad to see if it could bring in any results. Today is the first day, so I’m waiting to see how it performs.
My initial budget is $50–100 per month, and I plan to reinvest any profits into further marketing efforts. However, I’m not sure where to focus: Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, or another platform entirely? I’ve also considered using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) but worry about potential bans related to AI-generated content or copyright issues, especially since some of the material is inspired by YouTube videos.
I believe my software is a valuable tool—it can create ebooks for any niche—but I’m struggling to market them effectively. I’m not hiding the fact that these books are AI-generated, so transparency isn’t an issue for me.
I would appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to move forward and make the most of this opportunity.
