The back links and link building must be relevant to your blog and use social media like face book and twitter.
 
Get a nicer theme so people are more likely to come back. I reccomend the Avenue theme, you can find it free on plenty of sites.
 
Use new seo strategies like PDF submission, slide submission, image optimization are good for blog more popular !

There are many same kind of threads I have seen. So I would advice you to dig some old posts. Though I don't know if you are looking for such tips. But it's worth a try....What you should do: Don't write too many encyclopedic-like posts. Write too many, and your readers will get bored. Considering the fact that encyclopedic-like keywords need a lot of backlinking to rank high in the SERPs, you won't rank very high if you have too many keywords to rank for and not enough time to build enough backlinks. I suggest you write maybe 1 or 2 encyclopedic-like posts every month, add your own opinion into those 1-2 posts, and spend the rest of the month building backlinks towards those 1-2 posts. Also paid forum posting is a good way to make your blog popular.

There are so many different ways that you can obtain popularity on your blog. First I would make sure that your blog has a way for visitors to connect with you or their social media accounts. You should set up a twitter account, youtube account, and even facebook pages and start to get some people that know what you blog is all about. Once you get some more daily visitors then I would say it's time to monetize it.
