i've tried social signals and tier 2 links lately to index my new posts, it works well and got indexed on the next day.

Just update the url in sitemap and submit the sitemap in google search console. Also do few social media sharing. Hope based on your site authority, the spider will crawl your website as soon as possible.

Maybe try RankMath plugin. They've an option which automatically submits your new articles to Google for indexing.
I remember there was a post which claimed that RankMath helped the guy index a page with no content at all within a few hours.
It's free so maybe worth a try.

No, it works for non-news websites too. Check feature #18

It'll automatically ping to Search Engines as soon as new posts are published. Doesn't matter if it's a news website or not.
