As you might know by now, we moved away from hosting images on imgur.com to BHW Media due to an update Imgur made recently removing all non-hosted images. Thankfully, the BHW team acted swiftly to ensure that those of you with non-hosted Imgur images on your sales threads would not be affected by this update. Yeah, yeah, you're welcome!

However, this means that you need to start using the BHW Media feature instead of using externally-hosted image websites.

Below you'll find some general guidelines and answers to the most common questions regarding BHW Media images and how to use them in your sales threads and signatures.

So, let's get started!
  1. General Guidelines For Sales Graphics
  2. How to prepare a sales graphic for a thread edit
  3. What to do if your sales graphic file size is too big? (over 2MB)
  4. Can I embed an image using the "attach" button?

1. General Guidelines For Sales Graphics

We're aware that many of you use a graphic designer for your sales threads, you can simply send them a link to this post so they know precisely what are the requirements for a sales graphic.

Max Dimensions & Sizes
  • Max width: 1158px wide (note we will accept wider images on upload but we will adjust on posting to 1158px wide which may compress your file 20-30%. If you want to maintain the image quality please ensure your image is less than 1158 px wide).
  • Height: Unlimited*
  • Image size: Max 2MB (per image - .jpeg, .jpg, .png or .gif - same size limit)
*It's technically "unlimited", but keep the width, height, and image quality in mind.

If the image file size is bigger than 2MB, you need to split the image into different pieces, depending on the image size - i.e. if your sales graphic is 5MB, you'd need to split it into 3 parts, each part should be no bigger than 2MB.

Additionally, bear in mind that whilst the max image size in 2MB, you may run into an error saying that your 2MB image is too big. In this case, simply reduce the size of the image to around 1.98MB.

We've described how to do all of this in more detail here in step 3.

2. How To Prepare A Sales Graphic For A Thread Edit

Step 1: Image size
Find out if your sales graphic is up to 2MB.

1. Select the image
2. Navigate to Finder > Get Info > General and you should see the following

Screenshot 2023-05-22 at 14.30.40.png
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Select the image and the file size should appear in the right-hand details pane.

Note: If you don't see this, click on the View ribbon > Details Pane

Step 2. Is the image larger than 2MB?
If the image size is larger than 2MB try to compress it. Note: if the image is too big, compressing it won't help much. For images larger than 3MB, please proceed to slice the image into smaller pieces - described here. If the image is smaller or equal to 2MB, proceed with step 3.

Step 3. Upload the image to BHW Media
  • 3.1. Navigate to BHW Media > Marketplace and click on the top right "Add Media" button
  • 3.2. Click on "Upload file" (top-left), select your image, and click "Save".
  • 3.3. Once uploaded, scroll down and you'd find the "Media information". Click on "Copy image link"

Note: If you lost the image URL, you can find it by going to BHW Media > Marketplace > Your Media
If you have more than one image, make a list of all of the images in an empty file.

Step 4. Submit a new thread in the Test Subforum
Now that you've done all of the heavy liftings with the images, it's time to put together your new BBCode for your sales thread. To do that, head over to Test Subforum. Consider this subforum to be a personal playground for your thread edit requests.

Compose your new BBCode as usual. The only bit that we'd discuss here is how to embed your images.

It's a very straightforward process. Copy your first image URL and in the text editor go to Insert Image > By URL

Once you have embedded all of your images and you're done editing your Test forum thread, grab the URL of the thread and head over to the Thread edit form to submit your request.

Your Test forum thread's URL would go in the last field of the form:

3. What To Do If Your Sales Graphic File Size Is Too Big? (over 2MB)

Step 1: Try to compress the image
You can skip this step if your image size is over 3MB. If the image is up to 3MB, use any image compressing service. Here are a few completely free.
Step 2. Cut the image into smaller pieces
Regardless of the OS, the default image photo viewer should be enough to accomplish this task. Here are the steps:

2.1. Figure out how many images you'd make
Based on the file size of your sales graphic, try to determine how many images you'd be making and create that many duplicates of your main image. For example - your sales graphic size is 5MB, since the maximum image limit of BHW Media is 2MB, you want to cut the graphic into 3 equal (in terms of height) images. The final result - each would be less than 2MB.

Tip: Name each of the duplicates 1, 2, and 3 (or top, middle, and bottom). The number would represent which part of the image you're saving.

2.2. Zoom in, select, and start cropping
At this point, all you have to do is zoom in (if the image is too big), select the top 1/3 of the image, and cut it. Save that as image "1".

Note: Remember the bottom point where you cropped the first image. You don't want bits of the images to repeat in image 1 and image 2.

Open the second image and start from the spot where the first image was cropped. Repeat the same for the third image.

Step 3. Upload your images to BHW Media
Now that you're done with cropping the images, head over to BHW Media > Marketplace and upload all of your images.

4. Can I Embed An Image Using The "Attach" Button Instead?

No. Use "Media" Instead.

For thread edits, you'd be required to use Media, so make your life easier and start using Media instead of attachments even for your BST in the approval phase.

That's awful what BHW did to the width of sale thread. It used to be ok with my 1721 px width, now it must be max 1158px ...

The number is not made up. That's the image width in a thread in the forum. It does support wider images, however, for the Marketplace specifically it's required to use BHW Media.

I am trying to follow this guide and facing a problem. My image width is only 966px and the sizes are all around 200KB, but when I use insert image by URL it show like in the image below What did I do wrong?

Thanks but I have figured it out myself. Currently, the forum has made some change to the Media since you made this guide. There were no more "Copy image link" option under the Media Information. At first I copied the URL directly from browser, which caused the error. You will have to right click the image and choose "Copy image address", or adding "/full" after the URL to make the images appear.

I finally understand. Now I hope I will succeed

I'm in the process of changing the theme and I've added an attachment, now how do I change the image back using media?

Please follow the steps outlined here. It's a short step-by-step guide.
