How to done 301 redirect Properly

A lot of us find and buy good TF/CF/DA/PA domains for redirects to the Money site for improving SEO.I have quite simple question :How to set up 301 redirect properly?
If you have good tutorial please post link.
Dont say google it and what so ever.If you post I know you applied.
And what are the common mistakes you must avoid to done 301 redirect properly.
I talk applying methods from March 2016 and time follow up to today.

The key is not in "setting it up", but in choosing a relevant site to redirect in the first place.

It should be niche related, and have a backlink anchor text profile that complements the one of the site to which you redirect it.

There is no point in redirecting a site about trucks to a site about cats because the backlink profile of the combined site (the cats site) will suggest to Google that the site is about trucks and cats - two unrelated areas.
