How to create a sidebar like that, to help the reader to move between articles and grey the selected article. Is there a free or a premium plugin for this purpose?

It's not a plugin but a navigation menu (at least in avada).

Remember in WP there was widget "Arbitrary Menu". Or check this plugin hfflx : // wordpress (dot) org / support / plugin / if-menu /
