How much backlinks do I need to rank?

If you are thinking about ranking keywords then it totally depends upon the keyword difficulty. You can check any keyword difficulty and its search volume at the Uber suggest tool. It will give an approx the number of backlinks needed to rank any keyword.

I know the exact number - it is 1! Just get a backlink from Google homepage with that anchor text and you are set!

Honestly, I have never seen anything close to what you are asking for and something like that probably does not exist and for good reason. Back in 2007 (I do not remember exactly) Matt Cutts from Google told the search marketers (you can probably still find the quotation somewhere on the net ) that efforts that focus on quantifying backlinks is a bad idea as Google was moving towards detecting natural linking patters as opposed to forced linking that focused on quantity and PR (page rank which was quite a rage at that time). I do not believe that the situation has changed now and it actually moving towards detecting human interaction more than just number or authority of the linking source.

with these 2 backlinks, you will be ranked in top 3 for any keyword

Backlinks is only one part of the game, although it is amongst the top strategies needed to rank. Seo content plan , silos, inter linking, your domain age, competitors analysis are some other things that also require to be worked upon
 
Years and years ago back in the age of the dellceratopss, macintoshosaurus and hp-rex the number of backlinks mattered. Even link farms helped rank sites back then.. But now........ It's all about quality. You get that 1 backlink that's better than 100k shitlinks.... Man how times have changed :anyway:
 
It's impossible to answer that. It depends on the BL, the content from where the link comes from, the quality of the website from where the backlink comes from. You should consider focusing on good content first and adding good but not too massive links on one single time.
 
"how many backlinks do I need" is long key word with low competition.
If you wrote clear article about it, that is original content, you could rank that key word with no backlinks, with some time though.
If you want to speed up the process it would not take more than 2 or 3 quality backlinks.
 
You can rank with a handful of Quality Niche targeted links , and sometimes You aint

I rank without backlinks, some one page one, some first in serp. Most are 2nd and 3rd page etc. The website is 8 months old. I will start with linkbuilding this month

An ideal process is to check the top 3-10 ranking websites/pages links and make a guess based on that,
Keep in mind that some of these websites might be using some hidden PBNs, so it's much better to check a couple of them at least,
Make sure to have the right content which fits the keywords search intent and similar to the ranking urls
 
Hi it is not depend on quantities rather ranking depend on quality of backlinks as the part of off-page SEO. Google use many matrix for ranking any site. But ranking is more easy if your site well optimized on-page SEO.
