How much backlinks do I need to rank?

Hello!

Question:
Is there any way/tool to predict how many backlinks would be needed to rank in the top 3 for a specific keyword?

Example:
Let's say that I would like to be in the top 3 in Google for the term "how many backlinks do I need" (just an example lol);
I know that there are different factors that make websites rank higher like DA, domain age, content quality, backlinks [...].
However is there any calculator or tool that could help with the estimation of backlinks needed?
It would be best if it would look also at other factors such as domain authority for example.

Any tips would be helpful!

Ranking is very complex. There are a lot different things that will affect ranking even way before you should consider backlinks. No tool could predict links you need. Especially seeing that every link is different in its own way, but overall some are very crap while others are really bombs. Don't trust such a tool if it exists.

Ahrefs keyword tool roughly estimates how many backlinks you will need to rank for any keyword term.

It’s not perfect by any means, but it may be what you’re looking for.

But SEO only works when understanding the competition, once you master why your getting beat by the competition using all tools above, then the same tools will help to beat your competition.

Or you can master a wp plugin like YOAST and be a wannabe SEO expert .
 
There are no any tool which tells you about how much backlink required to rank in top three position. Ranking is a complex factor and also there are many factors which decide your ranking. First of all fix all on page factor according to Google Guidelines. After then,
Starts to built backlinks. Keep in mind that one quality backlink is equal to hundreds of low quality backlinks. So, you have to built high quality backlinks. The question is what is high quality backlinks?
A high quality baclinks is made from a a website having very good trust score and relevant to your website. If you do this, then you can rank higher. Suppose you have 10 backlinks from trusted relevant websites and your competitor have 1000 backlinks from low quality or irrelevant website. Its possible that Google will give you higher position.

Built quality backlinks and check ranking. Built more backlinks after checking position of keywords. If it rank in top three. Then, You can note your no of backlinks.
 
Like others have said it really all depends. Quality of backlinks is usually more effective than a bunch of low quality links. On Uber suggest you can search for a keyword and it will tell you how many backlinks the competitors have. You can use this as a rough idea of what it will take to rank for that keyword.
 
There are no such tools like that.
But you should try to concentrate on the low competition KW to increase your ranking.
 
No one can know for sure. I've seen sites with 1k backlinks rank first even for broad keywords, and sites with 100k rank bad. It depends on the links quality and niche relevance.
 
SEO is one hell of an unpredictable game! About backlinks, it's not only quality, not only quantity; it's both. The closest answer to your question would be, "as many quality backlinks as you can get based on the niche".
 
Imagine if there WAS an exact method for getting a phrase ranked #1, 2 or 3 that somebody discovered, and the method got out to the IM public. Then 50,000 people followed the formula for the same keyword. Voila, 50,000 sites would be ranking #3 for that keyword, right?

That's why SEO depends on more than an 'exact method.' Certain keywords have 50,000 people working to rank it, other keywords have 5. Some sites have nothing going for them other than being over-optimized for a word, other sites have everything going for them content and authority wise, and rank for the same word without doing a thing. It's best to have site that has a "LOCK" on the best elements needed to rank (good links, onpage, content, and keywords) and proceed to try to make it the most relevant authority on your subject, rather than search for magic formulas.
 
You can use SEMRush to get rough idea as how much backlinks should you gain.
 
First start by creating content with way more number of words than your competitors.
Have proper SEO setup like h1, h2, bold, italic, underline etc..tags, add table of contents, schema and more features to the article like faq's, comparisions etc.
Make sure you have more features than all of your competitors trying to rank for that keyword.

After that start building links daily.
 
There's no such tool, but you can get a rough estimation analyzing your competitors backlinks profile.

Choose the top competitors for the target keywords.

Check they're link in quality and quantity.

Try to get better stuff in quality and quantity.
