How ccTLD influence SEO?

I've researched online about this topic and came to a conclusion that with ccTLD you geotarget a specific country and your website will be ranked better in that country (and only in that country). So if you're not targeting a specific country, purchasing a ccTLD is a waste of money and you'd be better off with a .com/net/org. Is that correct?

Also, I haven't found anything on how similar ccTLD (example .in.rs & .rs or .co.at & .at) compare to each other when it comes to ranking and SEO, so I'd really appreciate if somebody could share some information about this.

With cctlds you will rank higher in that specific country, but .com will help you rank in all countries overall.

One of the best ways to go is to get the .com plus all cctlds you wish to rank for, so you can rank better in all countries (.com) plus the countries chosen.

Thank you for your reply. Anyone else knows about that .co.at & .at thing? Using some logic, that's a subdomain of a domain already so it could be ranked lower?

I've ranked .uk and .co.uk the same way, there are no differences in rankings
