That depends on what you are offering. Not every business model can have email lists adapted to them or rather should utilise them. If you are dealing with a number of clients or trying to find clients, then luring them in for a service where they give you their contact information in exchange for the aforesaid (free) service, then you can start building up that list. Also, existing clients, as a condition of being helped by you, can give you their contact details.
