How A Basic Backlink Profile Analysis OF My Competitor Made Me $36K IN 4 Months!

I do not want to get too much into finer details of this method, as its very sneaky, black hat. I don't want newbies to use this and get their sites penalized, because its risky!

If you can, please go into details... Just add a disclaimer or warning.

very interesting thanks!
what tool did you use to find his backlinks? ahref? semrush?
were the majority of these links were nofollow or do?
also, did you check if these pages were getting juice from lower tiers?

Hi,

Used both the tools, majority of the links were no follow, but he had some very juicy do follow links in the mix too.

No, there were no lower tiers, there was no need for that.

On a totally unrelated point, which is better "Niche Edit or PBN?"

In your experience, which gives a greater result.

Hi,

There is nothing better than having your own PBN, but if can't have that Niche Edits are a good alternative.

Nice trick used to do it back in 2018 in the Weight Loss Niche Too. But, tbh at that time i developed the method myself through reading about BBcodes and how to use color through it. In addition too inspect Google chrome, to find background color of the posts, as some forums change the block color for each reply to each thread. And here is a ss of ahrefs for domain i built links to it mainly using this.

And also, I mashed-up advanced Google search queries to find related and semi-related forums to post to.

Hello Guys,

I'll keep this short and to the point.

So, last year I had an affiliate site in Weight Loss Niche.

I had a competitor who was ranking #1, before getting into this niche I did a comprehensive analysis of my competitors back links profile and thought to myself It won't be hard to outrank him. But I was wrong!

No matter what I did I was not able to outrank this guy. My site was better than him in every aspect, content, back links etc.

So, then I decided to do some reverse engineering and started trying to basically get links from all the sources / domains he has links from.

Here things get very interesting and sneaky.

Here Is What He Was Doing:-

He was using a very sneaky method to get links from extremely powerful, HIGH DA/DR Niche Relevant Forums.

He was using quote edit functions of those forums to get back links.

Basically, he would post in a old thread in the forum which already has enough DA/DR and bring it back to life. He would Multi Quote 2-3 long comments and reply very decently to them.

After waiting for few days when the thread rolled down into 4th or 5th page of the forum, he would go back and edit the post and add his link within a quote. He would blend the hyperlink colour as the other text in post. All the forums he was using had limit of many days to edit the posts.

Example OF Putting Link In quote below:-

It's just an example, obviously he was quoting very long posts and blending aka hiding links nicely!

So, finally after preparing list of majority of his links, I got to the work.

I exactly started doing what he was doing, I would join forums, post replies, go back and edit posts to add my links. I couldn't replicate all his links because some forums caught onto what I was up to and deleted my posts and banned me. But I was able to replicate majority of his link profile.

Meanwhile, I was adding more content to my site and not doing any other links except from those forum links.

So finally, after few weeks of replicating my competitors back links, I OUTRANKED him and moved to #1, and I stayed there for almost 4 months and made about $36k in affiliate commissions.

It was a nasty niche, I was constantly getting NEG SEO from my competitors and finally they succeeded, after staying 4 months on #1, one day my site suddenly tanked hard and dropped to like 80-90 in serp.

This is my experience of making $36K by just doing some basic analysis of my competitor and reverse engineering.

Always keep a close eye on your competitor, you might find the reason why he is ranking and you're not.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer

I find it interesting that the moderators didn't ban your account just because you were reviving old discussions. The moderators are quite serious about this as well.
As soon as they see that a newly registered account posts in old discussions, they ban it.

Hi,

Obviously Mods will ban you if you bump old threads with stupid post like, nice thread, great share.

But if you reply decently, no one will ban you.

For Example Have a Look Below!

"Thank you for sharing tips and motivating us all in our journey to lose weight.

After giving birth to my first child couple of years ago I gained 12 lbs. I decided to start an extreme liquid diet Few months ago, but gave up few days later, as I got tired of drinking thin soups every day and felt very weak and dizzy.

But, the axe fell last week when I bumped into a former colleague and she asked me "
If I am pregnant again?"

That cannot be happening to me, that's why I decided to start my weight loss journey again and joined this wonderful community for motivation."

Now, you tell me. If you were a MOD on that forum, would you ban me for this?

If you still ban me for posting this, you're a cruel man:)

Thanks!

I built a bot a while back, nothing too elaborate, just a C# WinForm and the browser control attached, I would go on random forums say "learn to play the guitar" related forums, find an offer related to guitars on Clickbank, I used the content in the <title>keywords</title> tags to automatically scrape an answer on yahoo answers, then quickly picked one and copied/pasted.

As the replies were quite a big wall of text it looked more natural and I could post links (even on fairly new accounts) this brought a decent amount of traffic, I only stopped when yahoo answers shut down lol

Great thread mate thanks for sharing :)

Graham

That's really interesting method. SEO is not about what you do but how you do it. Same technique can have unique twist and turns. Good share.

I had already seen this method in another thread, I just didn't know it could be that powerful

Yes, me too. I think I first came to know about this trick back in 2011 on BHW. But didn't tried it until this recent experience.

I've been doing this on Reddit for quite some time. The edit limit is 3 months I think.
I come back to edit the comments after 7-10 days.

It's worth it for the traffic one can get.

you getting traffic by ranking your site on google by link with your reddit posts
or you getting traffic direct from reddit? usually my posts get some traffic then i post on reddit but after some hours i did not get any traffic

Hey SAM,

Glad to see you are active again. I hope this for good reasons and the offline projects are doing well.

Once I saw your name, I knew it would be gold.

Now your post raises an important question, you said no matter how many links you sent of other types, you couldn't outrank him.

Was these forums huge and powerful so you couldn't match their statistics with your PBN or Google actually compre link profiles of top results to decide who should be in first spot. So, whoever wants to be in first spot, should get forum links.

Because according to my analysis, forums, comments or posts doesn't matter. They are all content pages, but what matters most is the juice flow.

In your case, you suggest you had to match your profile to your competitor to outrank him! So, was your backlinks stronger than his before the forum links ?

Hello Mo,

Glad to see you too, my friend!

Seeing your name brought up all those memories from that AdSense thread 9 years ago.

Yes, my site was better in all aspects than him, content, on page, back links + I was using an aged domain.

If I look it very critically, then I can say that maybe he had better niche relevancy than me. Because the PBN I was using was not niche relevant but very strong.

Although, I was using Niche Edits but quantity was far less than what he was getting from those forums.

So, only thing I can pinpoint why I wasn't outranking him could be niche relevancy.

I always knew what he was doing, but never imagined this guy will give me such hard time with Forum Links. I usually do not rate forum links highly when it comes to doing seo for my sites, but we live and learn new things:)

Thanks!

Does xrumer still work

I thought any links that comes from

Domain.com/forum/ is useless.

Thank you for the article. Can you share the services you used to research your competitors?

Nice trick mate.
Those hyperlinks not have that underline bar?
Is it possible to put same color of the forum background on that hyperlink text and to be invisible?
Yes, I think it's possible.

Check out the example below. I have put the link in BHW as an anchor. And use the Color function to color the anchor with the text color. You can inspect elements to get the exact color of the text.

For example - I think http://blackhatworld.com is the best place to learn IM. [See BHW which is linked here, don't have the default link color which is yellow.]

Also, some forum text editors don't have the color function so you can use this code manually.

Code -
Code:
[size=1][url=https://www.blackhatworld.com/][color=#ffc]BHW[/color][/url][/size]

I have added the space between each bracket on the code above. Just copy the code and remove the space between the bracket and preview or post here. You will see that the default color of the link which is yellow on the BHW forum changes to the text color which is #ffc. You can then change the value to match the exact text color of the forum where you are going to make the link.

You can also use the size function to make your anchor look very small like this.

Code -
Code:
[size=1][url=https://www.blackhatworld.com/][color=#ffc]BHW[/color][/url][/size]

You can use this option when the forum has set underline for the links. So even if you change the color of the anchor/link, you will still see the underline and that's where you can use the size function to make it look very tiny that's invisible to the human eye, just like pixels. You need to check first what works and whatnot since different forums have a different sets of options.
