Hostgator scamming??

Hostgator has great support, that is why i moved there from *cough* Globat. So far I'm happy with them but only been with them for a few months. NOthing wrong with cleaning up junk files, you'd do it on your own computer anyway.

Yea im switching to ipower soon

You'll be really sorry if you switch to ipower. I used them before and they suck.

#1 - It's a pain in the ass to add domains to your account, they make it really difficult since they don't use cpanel.

#2 - You have to pay up front for stuff and they don't take paypal. I like that with Hostgator they just bill me monthly from Paypal.

Has anyone looked at Hos*tni*ne?

I was thinking of moving to them. They spread your sites over 9 or 10 different servers to give you better cross linking juice and it will prevent you from losing all your sites if one of their servers has a problem.

They don't use WHM though because of their multiple servers. They use some other kind of manager, but each site with a reseller account does get it's own cPanel.

Supply and demand, always a problem of these two. Paid so little (for hosting) and demand so much. I wonder is there really a free lunch?

Looks like it's time to do a little clean up, no matter what host you use. I know I have a lot of useless crap laying around on my server.

You are an idiot lol... firstly hostgator aint 5 bux... unless u pay for like 5 years. Secondly... you're an idiot!
LOL! The ignorant always resort to insults. Let me explain to you how it works so you'll be less ignorant. 99% of shared hosting is done on the overselling business model. Consumers are stupid so they assume that 350GB of space is much better than 1GB of space. The reality is that 80%+ of hosting subscribers will use much less than 1GB of space, many less than 100mb. But why go with a host that offers 1GB for $5 a month when you can get 350GB right? So hosting companies oversell their services knowing that consumers won't use 1% of what they're provided. In order to protect themselves hosts have clauses in their contracts that allow them wiggle room to get rid of people who actually use a lot of space. Typically this is a clause that files must be linked to from your website, no backups, no overuse of resources, etc. From what I read in this thread HostGator has an automated system that will flag you if you get over 50,000 files. Very very very few websites have that many files so there's a good chance you're violating their escape clause in this situation.

For more information search for overselling on google and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

The things that hosts should sell is CPU and RAm resource usage. Anything else is really meaningless.

read host*nines forums on their site. Seems like they are down all the time :( I almost got them. Currently use hostgator.

Your request makes me want to dig up an affiliate link and make some $ from you ;) But seriously, I don't like shared hosting. I'm a big fan of VPSes. You can get a good one for $40/m and not worry about the host canning you for what you use it for. Plus you have complete control. Very few VPS hosts care about your content so long as it's legal.

can you give me few examples? i use a lot of bandwidth and server resources, but i also need a flexible panel/configuration. :)

?? They dont use cpanel? thats a no go for me.
Also every time I use there live help, they always ask me,"where did you get our live help link from"???I'm like why the fuck does it matter

If you guys want something reliable, and easily scalable, shell out a few extra bucks and go with Mediatemple!

The support is amazing, phone, email or web.

I tried many of those cheap hosting plans, and I've had so many issues I could write a novel about them.

Humm looks like their dedicated servers starts out at $50. not to bad. I might give them a try.

How long have they been in business?

I've had good experiences with VPSLink and FutureHosting.biz. Both offer CPanel.

read host*nines forums on their site. Seems like they are down all the time

Come on guys you get what you pay4 put some doorway pages on host*nines and your be fine

Put a script on host*nine that needs a power server and get banned in before you have it running

Rent the servers to suit your needs and yes I use host?nine and Host*gator

Yea im switching to ipower soon

Well, I'll forewarn you all. I've been a member of Ipower and hostgator for a few years now and in two days time. Here's what happened with me in this mass error " inode " email.

First off, Hostgator has sent that by mistake due to a support manager that had the responsability sent it to a list of customers on the general lists. After my responding the the support team at hostgator, the same person handling the list, an exec. super over support, took it upon himself to cancel my accounts without my opting to cancel through their system and told me " Enjoy your new hosting service, whomever they may be."

His name is Tim W. and no longer works there according to the general staff supoervisor that called me on the complaint.

Now, as far as ipower, I've had a domain name from godaddy transfered over to ipower and the tech support team i ntheir registar dept. took it upon themselves to do something simular as the hostgaotr tech did and closed my support ticket, filed it as resolved and " KILLED MY DOMAIN TRANSFER WHILE IN MID_PROGRESS ", wich naturally, ipower management can't explain how this happened and offered their sincerest apologies.

Both of these companies suck. I now have my own hosting servers and paid an arm and a leg for an icann license to run my own domain reg. services so that I don't have to risk being our of control of my sites and services anymore.

Furthermore, FYI...Hostgator has hidden this " inode " cap article in their TOS, which is actually breaking a string of laws and consumer rights... False advertising by selling a quota of space in a paid plan and capping the user from ever reaching/consuming that full limit of disk space, under any form is a direct violation of that by offering pre-paid services with access to less than full product/service potentional due to restriction of service.

Then, another example of the consumer fraud is the fact that under the U.S. ferderal consumer rights act, any company alterations to a paid service must be revealed in writing to the consumer purchasing said product/service in writing via postal letter or validated account email. It's the LAW...heh.

These assholes have tried to get around the issue by hiding it in the TOS and making a minor post response on their forums once someone got their account closed due to it, completely illegally, based on the concept that TOS is " subject to change without notification. "

My attorney said for me to inform them of the legality issues and that if Brent, the owner of hostgator didn't alter that , we'd have a law suit claim on the federal level...heh. The supers couldn't stop kissing my ass enough.

These people think because they are on the internet that business isn't still business and doesn't apply to them. WRONG!

Heads up...I'd stay away from both places.

As for moving originally from godaddy...I'm tired of paying $18.99 renewal fees, which is just a waste of money.

Yea VPS link is my choice now. It was ipower until I found out they dont offer Cpanel. What a joke!

so how does vpslink handle complaints. Will the shoot first ask questions later like hostgator?

just take a look at "link-4" plan at $39.95 /mo: 20GB storage and 500 GB bandwidth. a friend of mine have a site with dreamhost shared plan at $10 that consume such amount of bandwidth and hard disk. it's true we will move from dreamhost couse they suck, but i don't think vpslink is a cheap solution at all.
u can take a look at midphase dedicated plan at $200 , 10,000 GB/mo. then compare to the "link-7" vpslink. besides that midphase accepts adult sites(but that is good only for me :PPP).

How many sites use 10TB a month? Not many. Besides, Midphase's dedicated servers are on shared bandwidth. It's unlikely you'll be able to use 10TB of data in a month on shared bandwidth once the load becomes heavy. They are overselling because very few people use a lot of bandwidth. They are reselling SoftLayer servers.
