A few months ago i purchased the domain name ibots.com from an online auction through GoDaddy. My plan was to develop a web page associated with things like intelligent robots, Apple Robots??, intelligent marketing...etc. But i never got around to creating the website.

Earlier today i was contacted by someone asking to buy the domain from me. He said he was a "domainer" and purchases domains from people. He offered $500 and said we could transfer the money/domain through Sedo.com

Does anyone have any thoughts on if this is a good idea or scam or if ibots.com is worth more.

Thanks
Dave

Get in touch with the user "MeatHead1234" and he can give you a proper evaluation on the value.

He said we can do the transaction through PayPal so it seems legit. I'm just wondering if $500 for ibots.com is way too low and if i should try selling it to someone else?

Just checked the stats on that domain, don't accept the $500 offer, it's a 15 year old domain and is also very brandable, to the right buyer you could be looking at 10x that offer price. I already have a few people in mind who would probably buy it.

Meathead would be able to help out with domain/website value but that is a very rare domain. If a domainer is offering $500 for it you can be sure it's worth triple that if not more. But domainers will low ball you all day so getting proof of the domain's worth is advised.

You're headed in the right direction. I wouldn't sell it though..

Thanks, i sent Meathead1234 a PM.

Ya i was surprised that i was contacted by someone offering to buy it. I had never heard of a "domainer" before, i assume it's the politically correct version of a "domain squatter".

But i would definitely be looking to sell it. I had big plans a few months ago when i bought it but plans have changed and i'm way to busy to put any time or effort into it.

I don't know enough about domains to advise here, I deal with established businesses - but I would be very surprised if $500 was a fair offer. I'd expect it to be worth more than that. I'm no expert on domain valuation, though.

Whatever you do, NEVER accept payment for a domain via Paypal, and never agree to paying for an "appraisal" pre sale.

If I were you, I would go over to a specialist domaining forum like NamePros and ask there before accepting the $500 offer as I think it's on the low side.

Ok, Thanks for everyone's help. I put it up on NamePros and i'm waiting to hear what they thinks it's worth. $x,xxx would be great.

really nice short brand domain.$xx,xxx worth for enduser. keep the domain for next few months and get listed in flippa.

all the best.

The only thing that bothers me about auction site like Flippa is that you never know what it's going to sell for and Flippa takes 10% of the total sell price.

But if i don't get many offers in the next several months i might have to put it up there. I guess i should probably get around to updating the site template to let people know how to contact me.
