I need to know how to create a link tracking system. sort of.

Let me explain what i want to happen, and maybe someone can tell me how to "Make it so #1"

People come to my site. Select a name (X) from drop down menu
Then click outbound link to online store (Y) (affiliate link, for example lets say Amazon)
Then shop at (Y) and checkout this giving commission (Z) to affiliate (i.e. Amazon)

I need to connect the dots from X, to Y, to Z. So proper commission of Z can be awarded to X

Does that make any sense? any ideas? is this bigger than a simple answer? HELP PLEASE!

You can do this with Prosper 202 (it's free), I can't just explain how to do it here you're going to have to learn about Prosper 202 and it will take some amount of time (not too much though).

http://prosper.tracking202.com/apps/

Also, the affiliate you are working with will have to use a conversion pixel. A lot of the time that will require your site to be https. You will create a conversion pixel in Prosper and then save it in your affiliate account and when the conversion happens it will fire your pixel and you will be able to track it.

oh wow, thanks so much! i will start studying right away. and look into what it takes for an http(s)

You can register a new NameCheap account and use a $0.98 domain and get SSL sertificate for free.

You can track everything you said with Google Analytics too.

Except the checkout process where you would need a pixel to be placed right at their checkout process (unless you own the checkout page yourself)

Thanks for the tool insomnia I was looking for a similar software.
