I had up to "28% not following you" in my analytics - those hashtags worked. I got results on average around 12 to 15%.
But I tended to use the same basic 20 over and over again plus 10 that were more detailed about the photo.
Now I did hashtag research to better target the audience. I included smaller hashtags (under 100k occurrences) as recommended.
My first two posts with the new hashtag strategy were a disaster. "1% are not following you". That's the worst hashtag performance in two years. All hashtags I used were check out on Instagram, so there are no banned ones.
Could it be that when you use hashtags you have never used before, you are getting fewer results? In one both posts I used hashtags in regard to swimwear, which I barely used before, in the other I used steampunk hashtags because the photo had that look, and none of those 6 or 7 hashtags were ever used by me before.
I did everything that was recommended and the results are worse than what I had done before on my own without research. I'm truly puzzled.
