It seems that many websites are struggling with a drop in their organic search rankings. What steps can you take to turn this around and make sure your site stands out in Google's AI overview?

No. I'm about to hit 1k visits after a new website launch 3 weeks ago. And the site doesn't appear in ai overview, it only references another similar old and defunkt site.

Visits come from demand in perception, to the topic you are covering. Maybe you are a small fish in a giant ocean. Or maybe you are a shark sitting chilling in a jacquzi. Its up to you, which topic /niche you target and how you target it.

It has affected it but not ruined it.

Being showcased there is all about semantic SEO.
I suggest you look into it.

I wouldn't say ruined it but obviously it affected the organic click/ traffic. And we have nothing to do with that. Alas!

AI needs a source to get content. The informational content no longer needs lengthy posts and the visits will drastically reduce. So, the quality sources will reduce over time. The static content like celebrity profiles, historical events, information about entertainment content, etc. may become less profitable and people may abandon them. The dynamic content and content with a personal touch still works.

You’re right, AI Overviews changed SEO a lot. Focusing on strong topical authority, clear intent-based content, and solid E-E-A-T signals is key now. Updating older posts and improving internal links can also help regain visibility.

My site has also experienced a similar drop recently, so I'm trying to update the content, optimize it according to the AI overview and see if I can get my rankings back.

First, change your mindset regarding AI-driven SEO metrics. AI overviews are not a replacement for traditional SEO. They’re an extra advantage. Think of them as a spotlight on well-structured, high-quality content.
The better your site is built, the higher it scores in AI insights, and that boosts your search visibility.

But don’t forget the fundamentals: On-page SEO (meta tags, headings, internal links) and off-page SEO (quality backlinks, authority) still rule. Combine strong SEO with structured, clear content, along with keyword research with strategy, and your site will stand out in both traditional search and AI-driven results.

NOTE: Regularly update content, focus on user experience, and organize topics smartly. AI loves clarity, and Google rewards it.

Yeah AI Overviews are definitely shook things up, To Stand out focus on clear answers and schema markup and building Authority.

Review your SEO basics first if your website's organic rankings have declined. Make sure your site is mobile-friendly, update any out-of-date content, and speed up your pages. Prioritize producing comprehensive, truly helpful content that addresses user intent rather than just keywords. Lastly, add structured data, authoritative backlinks, and clear summaries to your website to optimize for Google's AI overview. These elements help your site stand out as a trustworthy, knowledgeable source.
