Has GoDaddy Ever Stolen Your Domain?

They have done it to me before too. That's why I never search a domain there. They are too damn shady!

I've had it happen twice....after that I never use them to check if they are available.

I have never had any problems with smaller registers.

So now I check somewhere else and if they are having a good special....then buy from them. Otherwise, I don't use them.

they do this all the time.. then they will try to sell it to you as a premium domain

Legal is one thing, ethical is another. You really think it's okay for them to swipe domains and ideas from someone like that?

Of course I don't think it is right, ethical or anything else positive... they do it though.

I had problem with namecheap... I wanted to register domain, found available one. Tomorrow, when I have put some cash to my CC domain was gone... Hate namecheap because that happened to me numerous times with them...

come on your on BHW complaining about that, if you were them i bet we would do it too i know i would

Why not keep them out of the search?

I assume that you have done your homework and decided on your keywords. You then have a place to start creating domain names.

1. Launch your web browser and navigate to the www and the root domain and see if there is anything there. If not go to 2.
2. Look in the whois database to see if the domain has a registered owner. If not go to three.
3. Register the domain.

There are so many tools out there, registrars don't even have to know you are looking until it is too late.

Please believe the "sketch" as those bastards have stolen a few from me!

I went to register a domain, searched for it on godaddy, but then decided i wanted to register it with namecheap instead.

Somehow when I went to go register it, it was then taken.

The whois is literally from the same day and everything.

I've heard sketchy things about GoDaddy before so I am curious, is this just coincidence or is something more nefarious going on here?

Who's the best to register your domain then. If GoDaddy is screwin' people, I'll go elsewhere. They've screwed me for the last time.

help?

HERE IS A WORD OF CAUTION WHEN CHECKING THE AVAILABILITY OF DOMAIN NAMES. If you are going to search for their availability through a registrar make sure you register them the first time you check to see if they are available. I have found this to be a problem during landrush events where they first release a TLD

If you want to be safe I would assume check the whois first.

My experience with Godaddy. I auctioned two names both sold for 60$ and never saw a dime. The craziest part of it all. I HAD TO PAY TO GET ACCESS TO THEIR AUCTION HOUSE. Be weary about Godaddy. Take advantage of their dollar deals and then transfer those babies out.

This has happened to me once as well... since that time I do all of my domain availability searching through:

Code:

Haven't had a problem with it since I've been using them.
