Small update:
I have published my 200 page cookbook with CreateSpace to test the water. The kindle verison has about 150 sales per month ($8/book). After 10 days I have sold 10 books of the printed version ($15/book). I think I can reach 50 sales per month. So CreateSpace is another good income source because you allready have the content and you dont need to invest money. Its a nice bonus income and if you are specialized in the cooking niche like me its an option because the people prefer a printed book if they are in the kitchen. I will also publish my other cookbooks at the end of this month.

Next step is to produce cooking videos and publish them with Create Space. I have no idea if someone will pay for videos on amazon!?! Any experience?

I look through the top 100 . . And I pay close attention to the rankings of the #1-2-3 spots. And I make sure there aren't hundreds of other books in a selected niche/category . Staying in a less popular niche is not a good idea. You want to get traffic and downloads. If a niche is not hot why even bother? This is not about re-inventing the wheel. Just remember people want to solve problems. if you're not writing fiction that is! whatever that "problem" may be
