That depends on your location and the no of quality ads seen which is linked to the visitor. And speaking about increasing the earnings, well for Adsense you need traffic. More traffic certainly more income!

I applied for Adsense account today, as well. I'll see how fast / if they approve my website.
One particular thing that I've noticed, however, and would like to mention is that before clicking on "get started" on adsense's starting page I clicked on the language option at the bottom right corner of the page cause I wanted to change the homepage (and instructions) from my own language (romanian) to english (usa). But I couldn't do it. I could change to any language and location I wanted, but not english and USA, so I settled for the UK in the end.
Not sure if this is any relevant to anyone, but I've read about numerous cases of adsense not being approved for people around this forum and never figured out what the reason could be. Well, I still didn't figure it out, but now I'm thinking that it might be something about the US market that gets delayed / disapproved.
If they approve my account it probably is something USA-related.
