Google update again?!

I think Google just doesn't know what the f*** they are doing. They are clearly lightyears away from understanding content/determining its quality. So many shitty sites are ranking above me right now (since after the algo update). My content is top-notch, like absolute highest quality. Theirs is shit.
I mean, this could be a possibility, right? They make mistakes and actually reduce the quality of search results they provide instead of increasing them.

Sry if I'm just repeating what sb else said in this thread already. tl;dr - at least not all of it

Its more about authority then about quality/content. Thats why we can see rankings of so many parasite sites like Change.org, which can spammed to death with rubbish content, but they are ranking really well. I think Google is making authority websites so strong, because they want to prevent "fake news" popping up on Google first page, so they are giving old authority sites a huge benefit.

Holy shit, thats sounds absolutely obvious. The first theory that actually makes sense!

Bascially, this is will kill freedom of speech coz today you can call fake news anything
Yes, but mainstream media like CNN, Fox News etc. are not considered as Fake News, even they talk a lot rubbish. I remember the first update making authority websites much stronger and put new websites into a long google dance was in September 2016, before Trump got elected and when the discussion about fake news started worldwide. I thought about the updates a lot and I think this is the only context where it makes sense.

Lets not forget one thing: Google is not only a search engine. They can really influence the public opinion just by filtering the serps. Same as Facebook can influence the public opinion by filtering what they are showing on your timeline/feed.

Despite all the hype, Google is far from undestanding content particularly non-US content.

But then it doesn't matter too much provided the majority of users don't start using Bing or DuckDuckGo.

Yes - I think this is a strong factor at the moment. Since Google is in the spotlight (along with FB, Twitter), they will be "filtering for fake news" (i.e. conservative views) until November, which has indirect impact on everything else. i wouldn't be surprised if there is another "big" update come November and their holiday algorithm kicks in.

Makes sense, but the sites ranking above me are niche sites as well and at least according to Ahrefs DR (I know this has nothing to do with Google), the sites are in no way more authoritative than mine.

can you do a quick analysis of the sites above you. for your primary keyword, what is the ratio of their exact match anchor for their backlinks? use semrush

i think all the sites who have gone down in ranking and say that their site is pretty good and they dont do much blackhat, are losing to the sites who have spammed and higher exact match backlinks

@nakamura: Google has been preferring huge brands ever since 2009, but then more and more swiched to a more granular analysis of actual content because the formula "A huge authority always publishes the most useful and relevant content" was and is pretty outdated. It's a safe way to show results that are ok quality most of the time, but creates monocultures in many niches, including monocultures of opinions.

Hi

As Google's bots will re-evaluate websites whenever an algorithm upgrade is released by Google, there'll unquestionably be fluctuations on all positions. During this period, you can possibly be rank for 2nd, then 11th, subsequently 1st, then 20th. And so on (also I feel that's the cause why some of you are standing well, but traffic seems to have fallen. As your site is leaping up and down from the SERPs).

Now, I don't really have a problem with this at all, since I make my own authority websites and take advantage of this. But I see how some "spammer" are taking advantage of this and spam "dead" authority websites (they don't seem to have any mods or admins anymore) with their rubbish spun content and some links inside and these are ranking on Page 1 within several hours. Because there is no admin or mod the crappy content stays there without getting deleted. Chances are very low to non-existing Google is going to penalize such "dead" authority websites. I have a big problem with that. Google tries to prevent spam, blackhat etc., but what they did is a classic "own goal". They gave spammer an opportunity to reach page 1 just within hours.

I didn't do another analysis, because I've done this before, but this is the case. More spammy/exact match anchors

I still see spammy exact match sites above me. Might be that way for a while. Who knows.

Fortunately I’ve regained most of my ranking but new content is slow to index. I mentioned in a prior post it usually took just a couple of days to index new content.

But now it’s more around 11 days and topics I would normally expect to rank well start way down in the serps.

I ran a parasite test for the same set of keywords as one of my newly posted articles. Shorter article. About 1800 words vs 4K of the original.

The parasite indexed overnight and ranked around 24 in the Serps. The original article is hovering in the 60s

Not sure I can draw any conclusions from this yet but interesting all the same.

i have noticed the same thing. usually the higher exact match anchors, the higher the ranking.

Was there another "update" around 15th of Oct? Traffic dropped again, and I see traffic scaling (same traffic from Monday-Thursday, when usually it was growing from Mon-Thu and then declining for the weekend - now the traffic is a flat line). Something going on again...

Every week less and less traffic. I can't believe this. Seems like all that I ever did to a website is now ultimately wrong as there is no uptick of traffic, just decline every week.

Yes, just another fucked up update.
