I don't think it's fully dead yet, but it's not the link juice factory it used to be. Google's algorithms are way better at spotting patterns now, like hundreds of fresh Google Sites all linking to the same money page.
The risk is high. You'll get a manual action for building unnatural links. If you're going to do it, the key is extreme patience and blending in. Use aged Google accounts (6+ months old) to create properties, post unique filler content, and let them sit for a few months. Only then add one or two links back to your site with brand anchors, not exact-match keywords.

Yeah, but not like the old days where you could just throw together a bunch of Google docs and magically rank. Now it might helps when you use it smartly like keep everything niche-relevant and treat it as a support signal and not a main ranking method

I previously retested Google Stack Overflow, and it's not pushing the same results as before. Spamming links is almost ineffective, and can even be counterproductive. Now, I only use Google links as supplementary links to support my brand
