Google releasing a large update today

Hi, I was hit with the MAY update but not too badly. Google has started fixing up things and I've started recovering from June and now I'm almost back to normal.

What did I do?
- Good Links
- New Posts
- Improved Site Speed
- Disabled ads when update happened and enabled them again in June.

Big firms and agencies who's clients got hit by this update clearly will rejoice at the news that the solution to this massive update was the very thing every top 10 basic shitty SEO recommends.

Crazy roller coaster, for sure because of new algo updates

14 Jul = 39
15 Jul = 17
16 Jul = 12

I didn't do anything for this particular KW.

Same patterns for the websites that I own that got hit. Going up down sideways when I didn't make any changes.

One article I did make adjustments one did actually recover, however I tried the same strategy on another article with no success.

same here looking for solution for this

As expected, all and I mean all websites that I monitor and got hit are again losing the keywords. This enforces the idea that it's a group thing once more and I doubt it has anything to do with content, speed or anything else.

From Google search console i have lost many good and natural backlinks. Google not show my new backlinks

Totally agree. Speed almost has no impact. My initial page speed was 64, after many updates and wasting time, I managed to get it to 90+. There was no improvement of my ranking at all.
If you look at all the pages that rank on page 1 & 2. mostly their speed below 50. There are some below 20.
Even if you check Google Developer pages, the speed is around 60. They don't do what they preached.

Look at this page, the score is only 39!

Speed is a small ranking factor, so improving it won't make much difference if the page scores highly on other factors. Neil Patel's pages score highly regardless of their slow speed because they rank so highly for other factors.

With speed, all that Google is doing is looking at whether a webpage doesn't load fast. Beyond a threshold (which we don't know) speed isn't a ranking factor (although a faster loading page may have better user engagement, which is a ranking factor). So there is little point spending time getting a pageload speed to 90 from 80. As you've said, it makes no difference.

I feel like you guys seem to not understand what people actually mean with SPEED being a ranking factor. Load speed of a website is directly connected to how many people will leave your website out of frustration. How many times have you during a Google search just backed out the website you were looking for information, simply because it took to long to load.

Faster site = Less people leaving out of annoyance = Better metrics, User experience.
I leave it up to you to decide whether that experience will result in a better rank factor.

The ratings that Speed insight means very little. You can have a 100/100 score and still have mediocre loading website.
Coming from a guy who has pages that load under 500ms; if your website loads in anything reasonable like under 2 seconds. It doesn't matter.

In the past I have flipped that I had bought and tweaked the design + speed that saw a big leap in ranking. However, I have never seen any of this be a factor in any algorithm update. Most certainly this one.

This is getting hilarious. My website is an authority in its niche (or was, God knows now) and I can't outrank a datasheet. The article doesn't have competition, but Google puts random bits and pieces from random websites to keep the first two pages filled with garbage. And it was actually doing better until two days ago. Keep it up Google, believe in yourself no matter what the world tells you.

Surprising today my organic traffic suddenly increase , cross my fingers stay longer or stable at least . I don't feel quite confident , who knows tomorrow, or next week drop back , really is Roller Coaster ride.

gee it seem stop , organic traffic never increase like been trottle don't go any further up and down yet again ....

Yes, this is what a lot of us are seeing, one hour the traffic is like the pre-May update and then two hours down again to 4-5 people sessions. It's the new normal.

It looks like google pushed out another update yet again!

My traffic had been slowly recovering for several days now and I even started to gain back new KWs.

I guess in google's eyes, this is a huge NO NO so they decided to push out another update to prevent that.

If you check 100 sites that run adsense you'll see that adsense is the single slowest component in all of them. Remove adsense and the site goes up 20 notches in speed.

Again, this is bullshit.

Google penalizes small/low budget sites. Sites who spend millions in ads are allowed to do anything, won't get penalized.

Adsense is proof of this. Google can do whatever they want, be the slowest horse in town, no penalties.

Google has 80% ads in their home page. Take it from there.

Spend on ads. That's all there is to it. You can rank a site using 100% ipsum lorem, no content and 100% shit links. Content, speed and posts are worthless. Right now SEO is pay to play. Buy tons of ads -> rank.

is it just me or rankings are actually getting back to normal?

There is no such thing as normal.

There is maximum ad revenue SERPs, that's the normal.

I don't know guys but I updated my website added a few more blogs, redid my on page a bit and I got my rankings and featured snippets back.

Was it a somewhat competitive niche? I noticed that some articles that used to rank do indeed respond to updated content. At the same time, I created a couple of new articles that should give me back some of the lost traffic but they don't rank even though, technically, there are no competitors.

I am experiencing the same thing. Making some changes in the keyword density and updating the content does give some boost but nothing too much. Newer posts with virtually no competition can't get high in SERPs anymore.

There was another update on 23rd and 24th. Would be interested to know what's happening with everyone in terms of rankings and traffic.

Even though you won't see many answers, I can assure you that almost all see the same thing as you and I. Like I said before, I monitor a larger number of websites (30+ in my niche) that were clearly hit in May and all follow the same identical pattern. When I see some progress, they all do, when the keyword bleeding resumes, all see the same thing.
