I was doing some checking of keyword rankings over the last few days.

I saw that 75% of my targeted keywords are on the first page of google (yes even after panda and arctic bird updates). :)
However for Yahoo and Bing ...only one or two keywords are on the first page (and even then they are way down in position 9 or 10).:(

Should I bother worrying about the keyword rankings in Bing + yahoo.
Bear in mind this is NOT recent, it has been like that (for Bing and Yahoo) for almost two months.

Lastly, in terms of SEO should I bother doing directory submissions as i keep hearing conflicting answers?:confused:

Web directories are a must. In fact, I think it's the first thing a webmaster should do to it's newly created site.

Be sure to apply to free directories (no reciprocical), if possible good alexa rank (so they actually send you traffic), some decent PR (in combination with ******** this will give you page rank!). Some web dirs allow links to inner pages.

Avoid pr 0 web dirs and alexa > 10.000.000 (keep them in your sight, tho. they will eventually grow in pr and decrease in alexa!)

If you have a good budget, you can have some paid listings to high PR ******** web directories. (business, botw, yahoo)

After the site reaches 50+ articles, has x months age you can go with a dmoz submission!

Sliq Submitter Pro from sliqtools is recommended for directory submissions. (or you can pm me for a good deal ^^)
 
Google holds about a 70% of searches, yahoo and bing are splitting a 30%. Even if you rank your site on yahoo and bing you will hardly get traffic. I wouldn't bother much with directory submissions. I would only submit my site to quality directories such as Yahoo, DMOZ and Best of the Web.

I always use directories+bookmarks for new websites and they seem to help on the long run. Just making the way for heavy weaponry links. :P
 
Would be much better if you submit to niche directories relevant with your site's subject.

Our website however is 2.5 years old, so do your suggestions still apply?

Yeah good idea, but the problem is my niche is VERY small. I mean really small. I only have 9 competitors, and i out-rank 7 of them for their keywords ROFL.

So there isnt honestly more than 2 or 3 directories for my niche, so the directories for the most part are unrelated to my niche.

Somebody probably thinks if this niche is small, there isn't much money in it. The truth is it does make money, but nothing to boast about.

Just do a little optimization for Yahoo and Bing. Google is your master right now when it comes to getting your sites ranked or letting Google notice your website.
 
Ive always done some light directory submissions when I build a new site. Never after that though, for no real reason other then i think they are pretty useless links.

In terms of Yahoo/Bing, dont worry about them, apply the 80/20 principle and just focus on ranking on Google. Ranking on the others has never yielded any meaningful traffic for me.
 
I am using MicroSiteMasters.com to check my keywords, as well as SEscout.com.


NOTE: SEscout.com is not as good as MicroMasters.com as somedays it shows not data at all....for days sometimes.
Micromasters...shows me new info every single day without fail.

Directory submission is good for one way back link and increase the ranking of the site.
 
Just submit to the top 50 directories. After that it's seems to be a waste of time. Who cares where your competitors are listed. SEO is constantly changing.
 
My main website has 492 keywords and phrase on the first two pages of google (Now the Ecommerce store is on flippa) . I am starting my second website soon. With over 100 real articles and hope not to get slammed.

Anyone else use SEMRUSH ... com software? Opinions?
 
High quality directories are still Good.
I think Ranking in other seach engines rather than Google is Good. but if you are satisfied by the result of Google then its not necessary :)
 
I believe that directories are still good for an old domain but not for the brand new domain.
