Google Maps SEO

Still having this problem while other business are crawling up the business listing it is getting me really upset now.

I have more then enough citations, reviews, 100% complete, literally everything.

I am sitting on F when you click on more results - but when you do the keyword search I do not appear in the top 7. This is literally getting stupid now. I see new businesses appear in the top 7, but when you click more results they are below me.

does your phone # have the same area code as the city you posted in? i know that google is hating the 800 #s.....if your in the (909) then you should have a
(909) area code.... my multible listings all got slapped because of 800 #s

just a thought

I've been trying months now to get listed under the locksmith category.
if someone knows how,i'm able to pay for this kind of information.

I have a brick and mortar business.

Consistency is very important. Same phone number, web address, business hours all helps get Google Juice.

I have even gotten a citation from an expired Craigslist Ad. I believe putting the business hours in the ad helped get it listed.

Here are two FREE web sites that will help get started or show you where you have some holes in your listings and backlinks. They are not perfect but are a good place to start.

Enjoy :)

Yeah everything is exactly how it is on the listing, the phone number is local.

I have 87 citations, 62 reviews, and everything is filled out, photo's, video's anything you can think of.

I just don't get why when you click more results I am on position F but when you simply search the keyword it doesn't appear on F or in the top 7.

Yeah I was trying to figure that out but really couldn't understand a bit of it - from what has been said it should help.

Right now I'm literally willing to pay good cash for anyone who can figure out the problem/fix it because I don't know what is wrong. I have been in the top 7 on maps results for a month now but do not show up when the keyword is searched. I have more of everything then most of the business up in the top 7 as well.

If you can PM me and are willing to do blackhat/whitehat or what ever to get this listing to the top I will pay for it. I have been trying for 2 months now and regular SEO like citations and reviews obviously is not working...

Question. Does anyone here know anything about Google maps API?

http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/index.html

Can something like this be useful when trying to get into the 7 box?

Try this one. It tells you how to put maps on your site using the api specifically.

http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=26392

It is all in asking the right question in most cases.

It is pretty easy to do, just getting the unique maps and markers are where it tends to lean in for the work part of it.

Map overlays:

http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/overlays.html

Map markers:

http://econym.org.uk/gmap/custom.htm

Custom icons for map markers:

http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Maps-API/web/examples-tutorials-custom-icons-for-markers

Hope this helps.

How long does it normally take to update the google maps listing??

I mean, which method would be faster to gain traffic. THe normal SERPS optimization with SEO/Link Building. Or the optimization of Google Maps with citations etc..

I think it is easier to optimize google maps, but what time does it take to show up in the "google maps SERPs"

There's no reason not to do both. I got a number one boxes for my keywords with the word "cheap" in front, in about 3 weeks. Making good money just from that.
That allows me to have patience with my normal SEO and now that is starting to pay off.

EDIT: Gosh I'm dense sometimes.

Wasn't there someone offering a google maps listing service on here?

Hi,

This is a great thread. I have always been curious about the impact of outsourcing citation, review work or even revising a client's Maps listing content myself to optimize it.

********* IP Address Issue **************

It's been established that Google tracks the IPs which reviews are generated from to filter out review fraud. It's not a big leap for Google to determine IP regions. If all reviews are outsourced and are from out-of-state or out of the country, it may minimize their impact and, worst case, impact the listing position.

o Would it be a good practice to use IP addresses which are local to business to keep direct and 3rd party reviews from locally based customers?

o Does this prevent us from doing consulting work for clients out of state?

o How can you use a proxy to emulate a review from a local customer?

****** Mix of Gmail and non-Gmail Accounts **********

Even though I heard reviews emanating from Gmail accounts carry more weight, it would raise a red review fraud flag if they all came from Gmail accounts. Do you agree with this?

********** One-Trick Reviewers ************

I've also read that Google is paying attention to the behavior pattern of reviewers. A review account that has only left one review for one business would look suspicious to Google. So, outsourcing reviews through friends or microjobs or elance for writing just one review for our client would raise a red flag. I would think that each reviewer needs to be paid to write 6-7 business reviews in the same local area. Outsourcers whose IPs are in India, Phillipines or even out-of-state would not look natural.

What do you think are the risk factors of these issues and how would you resolve it? I'd like to outsource the work, but minimize raising red flags and keep all the local maps SEO work whitehat and legit.

Many Thanks

How close to the city center is your customer's address?
And where are you accessing the internet from in relation to the city you are trying to market in?

Google priortizes listings by their proximity to the center of the city. What some people have done is establish geolocations using UPS mail boxes in other areas of the city they are marketing in. In this way people who have IPs in those areas will find your listing being that it has a location within their area. To accomplish this you can use alternative phone numbers you can get from Google Voice, Skype, and there was one other. This is in Google Maps Cash. It is a great resource. I highly recommend it. I have not tried this method yet because I am fairly successful without it. But for my main keyword it might be necessary.

I am marketing 65 miles from the city center where my customer is marketing. When I want to check his ranking I put in the city name after the keyword.

Also, have you tried video marketing for your client yet? This could put you over the edge.

Hope this helps,
DW

Sorry about that, it appears they have taken it out of print. You can try ' google map mashups '

http://rapidshare.net/files/1122558...s.with.Google.Mapplets.Apr.2008.eBook-BBL.zip
The PDFs in this came up with errors and wouldn't open for me. I tossed it in the Downloads section here: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh.../200391-get-google-maps-mashups-mapplets.html

Looks like a heavy read, and it might take me some time to wrap my brain around it. Thanks for turning us on to this book, this is the kind of advanced SEO I like to see discussed.

This has debated alot over the past year and I don't think it's the case anymore. I've seen alot of local results vary from proximity either through reviews or other factors in how Google shows the 7-pack order.. Google knows the addresses of UPS store's also which will cost you like $15/mo, so imo this won't factor much even if you register your business thru the directories. If this was still the case I'd just go dominate the top listing with a dummy site and charge people for ad space based upon that local business keyword.

I hate the idea of google tracking the IP for reviews since if a business has a kiosk that could be a problem.

I can tell you but I need to know what locksmith company that you are doing this for.......
I've been trying months now to get listed under the locksmith category.
if someone knows how,i'm able to pay for this kind of information.
