I'm starting an online service website writing articles and web content and I plan on spending a couple hundred on advertising. Which platform should I advertise with in your opinion?

you need to use google ads . its can brings real traffic to your website if you are able to target niche related people.

It just depends what the niche is.. Each niche has it's own most powerful traffic source.

What niche are you asking about?
 
I would say first start with google ads, and after getting some result, you can try with Facebook ads. As you know, google ads give you warm traffic compare to Facebook ads. Also, you can put your facebook pixel on your website and grow your pixel data and start doing LLA and also analyze your audience on facebook audience manager to better targeting on Facebook.
