Does anyone know how these will benefit a common man whose trying to earn something online..? or anyone for that matter..?
Wondering...

if they are giving something direct to poor peoples than its good news or if they are giving directly to government than it will be a totally waste of money by google

Only good news the whole world is looking forward - "Vaccine is Ready"

Hardly a good news for Indians. They do it for their own business expansion. Only thing is tech grads would get some jobs.

We know that India is not a developed country in terms of digitization. This kind of investment will give a hike in digital marketing. Particularly there will be demand for digitalized local business. It gives more business opportunities to Indian digital marketers.

Free wifi in your neighborhood may be? I doubt it will go beyond that. :P

Why I have the feeling of big brother idea when I read this kind of news I don't know. :D

Good news only if money goes to common man. Even if some scheme is there in open (from google) which is open for rural India or Indian.

But govt. deals generally go in a singular direction -> nowhere. Too much red tape-ism and nepotism everywhere in govt >bureaucrats > state governments > public representatives.

As long this funding leads to less scam and more paying customers I am happy

Great news for the country. I hope they will invest in WiFi enhancement. India needs better speed and connectivity.

God damn! people are not happy no matter what happensScreenshot_651.png

For those thinking this is some sort of non productive use of 10 Billion $ please read the article. It sure looks like a benefit to a segment of the country. 10 Billion only goes so far and India is HUGE so be glad that someone is offering an opportunity for some in the country.

NEW DELHI — U.S. tech giant Google is investing in a $10 billion fund to help accelerate India’s transition to a digital economy in the next five to seven years.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet Inc's Google, said Monday that the project will focus on building products that are relevant to India’s needs and empowering businesses for their “digital transformation.”

“Our goal is to ensure India not only benefits from the next wave of innovation, but leads it,” Pichai said in a digital keynote at a Google for India event.

The company also announced it will invest $1 million to support digital education in India. It said the fund will enable 1 million teachers in 22,000 schools across the country to use Google services that can facilitate online learning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made digitization a major priority for India.

He envisions a “Digital India,” where high-speed Internet access will empower entrepreneurs to build software and other technology products to help raise the standard of living in a country where many households are still impoverished.

Modi styles himself as a leader in touch with technology. He has nearly 60 million Twitter followers.

Modi said in a tweet that he and Pichai met and discussed a wide range of subjects, “particularly leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers, youngsters and entrepreneurs."

“I was delighted to know more about the efforts of @google in several sectors, be it in education, learning, @_DigitalIndia, furthering digital payments and more," he said.
