Godaddy is Stealing my new found domain...

Let me tell you my experience, I was trying to register a domain name and It said, domain already taken, however, by mistake I tried the same domain name after a few minutes and it said, domain name available and luckily I registered it.

YES GODADDY STEALS DOMAINS PERIOD!
I had a domain with them that I wanted transfered - suddenly could not get transfer code, after months of phone calls and bullshit they revealed they had actually sold my domain. What the hell for I don't know, as it was my name. They sold it to name volcanno which buy domains from godaddy in bulk. They don't even have their own website. Yep I can buy it from them for 4K Yeah Right! And they are refusing me tranfer codes again for another domain. This ones trademarked so should be sweet!
You will find plenty of folk around with with the same old story.
Moral of the story - stay away from Godaddytheif.
With so many good domain hosts around I have no idea why anyone would would want to do business with shitty business thingys.

I have heard this about go daddy before as well as tons of others.. resellers are the worst! Why would someone build a site like that to make what? .10 cents a domain unless it was to snatch domains? I use dotster to search as I have never heard about them doing that and their gui is really nice.
The funniest thing I have heard is the ICANN approved seller of the .me extension was allowed to hoard all the premium domains and auction them off 1by1.
date.me went for $70,000.00 Imagine if Verisign had been allowed to do that with .com ?

Here's whats going on...
The script godaddy uses to look if a domain is available is messed up.
Sometimes it will retur that a domain is taken when it's available.
I tried using different browsers and it got me different results.
Other than that I've been with godaddy for 12 years and no problem yet.
Most professional in my oppinion.

snoop and swipe, somehow there must be a way of finding out names that have been just searched but no registered yet I searched for 6 domains unique went away for 20 mins came back ready to register them and F M D they were gone already and parked by Go daddy.
Now why would go daddy do that do they hold a searched domain for 1 hour / 1 day who knows but the scary thing was they were unique no use to anyone else really yet they got snaffled and parked by Goduffy and i had to bid for them.

Network Solutions did this to me one night. I checked a name, went to my account panel at Lunarpages to get it added to my account, entered the name, it was taken. I went back to NetSol and looked at the whois, taken by NetSol, they then were asking a premium price for it.
Last time I used them to check available domains. I use GoDaddy now, never had a problem.
I should add with a caution though, I got a dotcom, a day later, GoDaddy bought the dotnet to the same domain. So, I dont put it past them.

The practice of registrars allegedly registering AVAILABLE names that get whois searches is called front-running. ICANN doesn't like it but then again ICANN doesn't really have testicles. Various registrars have been caught in the act of doing it and exposed. It costs them a lot of money to do it though, so in reality most don't. I can't remember if GD ever got caught doing it, I know network solutions was nailed for it awhile ago. It actually kind of fucks over the registrar doing it, they can run through their escrow funds at the registries pretty fast if they're not careful...but any way....
The practice of registrars selling EXPIRED or EXPIRING names is called aftermarket or auctioning. It happens - if you don't renew a name, it's gonna go into a pool of names that companies put up for sale before they drop back to the registry. It's also called flipping names when the registrant is the one doing it. But it's far from unethical - and most decent registrars notify you ahead of time when your name(s) are approaching expiration (and really, take a bit of responsibility and track your domains' expiration dates yourselves).
If you want to be safe when looking for AVAILABLE UNREGISTERED domain names, use a whois checker that is not affiliated with a registrar. And know that whois checkers all rely on the individual registries for their data. Just because one s whois says x about a name doesn't necessarily mean jack - they're just puking back the data from the registry for the given TLD.
If you want to protect your REGISTERED domain names, get a fucking calendar out and write down the dates they expire.
Personally, I think with GoDaddy you get a certain amount of security thru obscurity - they have so much in their portfolio that "little" stuff gets overlooked by them. Your mileage may vary.

DON'T ignore the half dozen "your domain expires in xx days" emails that you get.
