Godaddy is Stealing my new found domain...

I have 30+ domains with them and have had no problems, but they are slimy and believe everything negative written about them.

After reading this stuff I'm almost tempted to move everything over to my acct. at namecheap.

Godaddy's hosting sucks in my opinion and I don't host with them any longer. Hostgator, Dreamhost, and just about any other is better IMO.

GoDaddy has stolen my domains after searching before. Then they registered it for 2 years!

I HATE GODADDY!!!

actually I was after 3 hot domains and they took 1 of 3. same thing happended to me with Domain monster registering .tel domains. I was after dunkindonuts.tel it was available so I made my order andcharged my CC, order went through, later after 2 days they come saying sorry we will refund you we we unable to register your domain!! huh??? It was free, 100% sure, free on all the three providers I was checking for .tel's Thye took the huge domain.

actually every time I hear more the noise that .tel domains will be the next .com in a few years. so these are HOT properties to own. Anyway domain monster guys, 2 months later, were avoiding to refund me!! - I made all the calls and sent all the tickets, after all the works and threats they finally processed my refund. :(

so they used my $ for 2 months and I got no domain after all, how good is that? Think, if they do that for 300 costumers at 299 usd / piece. I am sure they are making so nice bank records on their charts, this will enable them to apply for higher loans for example. bidvertiser ddi the same to me, being themselves a PPC, based in israel they have a trick to get 1.000 usd out of your CC, and then will refund you only if you ask for the cash, and after some good waiting time ;)

u see? the big crops exploit people in several ways even when they end refunding in some cases, they still keep the good sales records etc so they look healthy on investor, stock holders and bank eyes, nice he?

Dave.

so yep, it is not only godaddy playing da fool with you...

Dave

and this is why i use namecheap godaddy can gtfo ^_~ haven't had an account w/ them in like 3 years w/ all the hassel i had with them ftl

I built my own Whois a few years ago that directly queries the ARIN/RIPE root servers. I do all my checking for domains on that, then register it directly at Namecheap.

I've had lookups sniffed in the past at Godaddy, but Network Solutions were the worst and they were even open about it. It called "Domain Name Front Running"

Code:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name_front_running

Wow I remember reading about this around a decade ago, I didn't know it was real... Guess I'll continue staying away from Godaddy, they seemed a little shady when I was trying to set something up anyway

This is criminal. It's too bad they are putting ppl away for stealing a loaf of bread and not these crooks.

I'm pretty sure all this can be avoided by just using namecheap.com

They are well known to steal domains, especially if you leave it overnight. I haven't heard of them stealing it in the same shopping cart session though

Wow, and to think I believed that godaddy was the most trustworthy one after my last horrible experience from a different company which charged me 20 bucks for a renewal.

I been using godaddy for all my domains and everything was fine, but after reading some of the posts here I think Ill be purchasing my domains elsewhere.

network solutions used to do this same crap.. i used to wrk for hostgator, and we had customers calling in all the time saying they used network solutions to see if a domain was available, and then if they didnt buy it thru them, it became locked.. we would have to manually call network solutions and bitch them out about it....

Edit: wow thats crazy how network solutions lined up perfectly 3 times in a row...

well i hope it was just an error. maybe on there laggy website. sometimes there website loads very slowly.

Use Namecheap, it's as simple as that. You can check a kick ass domain and if it's available then, it'll be available later. I thought of getting a great domain for a new site I'm developing but I didn't buy it right away, fast forward 3 months later, it's still available. Namecheap never goes wrong with me.

I agree. Plus godaddy is a piece of crap site to use, namecheap is way easier. Plus FREE who is guard, not that $7 a year crap from godaddy. Goddady really needs a complete make over.

same here. i thought i grabbed an awesome one word .me about a year or so ago. the domain gets about 200k in exact searches per month. i got the email and everything. checked my goxaddy domain manager and the domain wasn't there. so i called them and some twirp told me that by some strange coincidence, somebody must have grabbed it right before me. so i checked the whois during the phone call and it wasn't registered. it finally showed up months later parked by guess who? i would just rather they tell me the truth than have some jerkoff give me a pantload. especially b/c i have no idea what call center i am calling and i can't drive over and beat the shit outta somebody for stealing from me. isn't another strange set of coincidences that a bunch of us have this story to tell?

I'd been using eNom since GoDaddy dicked me over. Might give this NameCheap a try though, if you're saying they do indeed do free WhoIs privacy protection.

heres an offtopic godaddy story

I owned a domain with them, It was getting about 68,000 a month unique traffic, pr2 or 3 i forget, anyways it was making me a few thousand a month. So i get an email saying they have taken over my domain and if i want it back i need to pay them $600. They said it was because i posted on CL that domain address. SO they are authorized to take my domain. I didnt pay them, the thought of giving them my money really sucked. Anyways about a week after not paying them my site was taken down, and THEY parked it and probably cashed in on all their ppc on their parked site page......

ARE you fucking serious?

How many domains that take from you.
Fuck. I would avoid godddy like plague if this were true.

I mean I pay only $6.75 per domain at my registrar and never have any problem. I am so happy with it.
