Great tips, OP, except I don't recommend updating content once in three months, I'd say few times a week is okay for a small blog.
I like how all people try to act smart and fail on this thread except for SkyrocketSEO.

Now wonder why I could never rank! All this time I've been printing out my unique articles and pouring juice all over them, scanning them back in and uploading them to my sites for SEO. It never really worked and I always had to keep buying new printers because of all the juice... thanks OP! :)
 
Yes, SEO is a "game of patience". If you are impatient to do SEO, of course you fail.
 
Good advise but there are many more new tasks for better SEO, and as you said content play a key role to build good traffic, if we have unique and high quality content then we can get good ranking with the help of seo
