Hi everyone,
I run a local facebook page that creates awareness about a cause. Part of the content of we post is content from other pages / organizations translated in my country's language - this includes articles, images and video (to which we always add credits to the author). There are rarely copyright issues, since all materials are created to raise awareness in the first place, so no one has a problem with reposting.
A few months ago, we started getting this message when we reposting videos from one specific page (that belongs to an organization):
"Facebook is committed to protecting everyone's intellectual property, so we're letting you know that your video contains material that you may not have the rights to use.
/Page/ applied attribution to your video because it contains music, audio or video that belongs to them.
This action will be automatically applied unless you dispute it. You can submit a dispute within 7 days if you feel this is a mistake and you have the rights to use this content. By submitting a dispute, you give /Page/ permission to review your video and information that may allow them to identify your account."
We clicked OK without submitting a dispute, and nothing happened: The video wasn't taken down, there is no link or anything added that leads to the owner's page. This happened with 3 different videos over a few weeks. There is no visible difference between their performance on the page compared to other videos we posted. My question is: how did facebook apply attribution to the video? If we continue to repost such videos, will this put the page at risk? We have pretty good reach and wouldn't want to mess that up.
