I would recommend it if you can find a good brandable domain with VERY good niche relevant links that you can't get with some work.
A non-brandable domain will hinder your long term plans.
A brandable domain with unrelated links will not provide as much boost as desired for a long term project.
Focus first on brandable, so it let's you build your project long term, then if you can get something with HQ niche relevant links, even better, but focus on the name first.
Ignore metrics, look at backlinks, Google cares about backlinks not 3rd party metrics. Sure metrics can help narrow it down, but a far from an end all be all.

Also, using regular expired domains that you can find freely online as a money site is not exactly best option. Reason behind it is, that they are not too strong and in my opinion not exactly worthy of the sacrifice of a brandable name. If you can find something within your niche and brandable at the auctions, then that would be my call. Even wider niches or unrelated domains would be a better call than random 10 RD domain. That's my subjective view on things.

Just do yourself a favour OP and don't buy anything based on DA/PA and absolutely ignore any automatised spam score crap. That won't help you with anything.

Well, as important as pulling out in time. Sometimes you can get away with it, sometimes shit happens. It's better to pull out to be sure, but hey, heat of the moment.
