Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and marketing in general, so please excuse my ignorance in advance!
Background:
I have been working as a freelancer on Upwork doing game dev and other stuff like virtual reality. Upwork is ok and has allowed me to build a small team of contractors. Upwork takes 20% brokerage fees of every contract initiated on there. That's not a big deal. The big deal is that the Upwork algorithm is very unfair to it's freelancers. Clients on there bully and hold the freelancer hostage to good/bad reviews. Reviews and Job success scores insure you're higher up on the search index and are likely to be seen and invited by clients.
I honestly think it's too much stress to maintain a 100% success score. One client I had was being outright rude and racist. Sometimes clients forget to come back and close the contract which means scores drop. If they forget to release payments on time, score drops as well.
So I'm looking to now expanding my horizons and think local SEO may help me get more leads.
I'm not a location based business guaranteed and provide virtual services, but besides LinkedIn leads, this is the only way I can think of getting leads and ultimately clients. By setting up a GMB and website local page I can target different cities.
Any thoughts on this?
