Duplicate Content Reason for Not Indexing ?

So I have been having issues with a handful of wordpress sites all using different themes in regards to posts indexing properly if ever at all. Most of these themes have "recent posts" sections and or "previous post/story" sections that are linking to recent posts ect. on all the pages on the sidebars. Could these links be causing duplicate content issues resulting in these posts never indexing ? That is honestly the only conclusion I can come to at this point. I have categories and tags set to no-index.

Also yes all the content on mysite/s is handwritten unique.

It's not duplicate, just recent post sidebars that link to the posts on the site. But I'm questioning if this is bad or not.
 
Sidebar links or archive pages dont cause duplicate content issues. Please check these two things
  • Canonical url is set properly
  • Your sitemap is updated (if possible check Search Console for index status)

Sidebar links of recent posts are necessary things for blogs . So it'll not create any issue.
 
I doubt those links are causing 'duplicate content' issue or anything close to that. Just make sure you are running the latest version of WP, which already has everything nicely formatted according to the 'guidelines' provided by google.
Nevertheless, if your content isn't indexing (even the basic indexing), then you just need to increase your link profile and authority in the process. Better link profile and higher authority can get your content (even spun or some copied content) indexed on the search engine.
 
Duplicate content can present three main issues for search engines:

They don't know which version(s) to include/exclude from their indices.

They don't know whether to direct the link metrics (trust, authority, anchor text, link equity, etc.) to one page, or keep it separated between multiple versions.

They don't know which version(s) to rank for query results.

whats the "proper" way to set canonical url ?
 
Its rather simple. If you have https you set your canonical url as that. The basic idea here is, once you have set a canonical url for a page, it won't treat the http and https as different copies. Also things utm markers, fb click id and referral ids won't get indexed as different pages.
