Does Publishing More Content Still Work in 2026, or Is It Just Wasting Time?

Hi everyone,

I have been working on a small blog recently and trying to stay consistent with content.

But I am starting to feel a bit confused.

Earlier, the advice was simple publish more articles, cover more keywords, and traffic will grow over time.
But now it feels like just adding more content does not really move the needle.

Some things I am noticing:

New posts take a long time to get indexed or ranked
Even after publishing consistently, traffic is very slow
Some older posts don’t move even after updates

At the same time, I keep seeing people talk about:

Using stronger link building
Building authority faster
Leveraging expired domains or other methods

So now I am wondering:

Is content volume still important, or is authority the main factor now?
At what point does publishing more become ineffective without backlinks?
For beginners, should the focus be on content first or authority first?

From my side, it feels like effort is there, but results are not matching.

I would really like to hear how others are approaching this in 2026.

I felt the same recently. Just publishing more content doesn’t work like before. From what I’ve seen, content still matters, but without some authority it’s hard to move rankings. Even good articles just sit there if the site is new. What helped me was focusing on fewer, better posts, some basic backlinks and internal linking. Once a bit of authority builds, new content starts performing better. So I’d say start with content, but don’t ignore authority for too long.

Publishing more content alone doesn’t work like before. I’ve seen better results with fewer, high quality posts that cover topics deeply. Authority and backlinks also matter now, so balance content with promotion and trust building.

Pumping out content is basically a waste of time right now if your site doesn't have any authority.
Google's recent updates heavily favor trusted domains with strong backlinks, meaning a brand new site with a hundred articles will still get buried. Stop churning out new posts for a bit and spend 80% of your time building quality links or driving traffic from places like reddit.
Once your domain actually builds some trust, then your content will finally start ranking.

Content alone is not enough authority now plays a big role.Build strong,topic focused content first,then add quality back links.A few relevant link and good content to better rankings.

Due to google's new update high quantity of blog posts get neglected from being ranked by google. You do need a good quality of backlinks, guest posts and niche edits from relevant high authority blogs/websites in your niche. Also if you are not editing your previous blog posts now is the time to do it in order to enrich them and for them to be viewed by Google as "up to date".

I think content alone isn’t enough anymore, especially for new sites. Volume helps, but without some authority it’s hard to get traction. I’ve seen better results focusing on a few solid posts, internal linking and a couple of decent backlinks. For beginners, I’d still start with content, but start building authority early too. Once that kicks in, things usually move faster.
